Server still being paid for as part as I know. New registrations was closed some time ago so now just a cosy group of members, sit back, relax, enjoy nice chats here and there And we will get the SSL sorted out

We need to get a patreon up and running for server costs
Yeah, something like that works, something to cover hosting, domain registration, software (not sure if vBulletin is free) and so on.
We do the same with GSV, our forums are on phpBB though which is free so we just upload the invoice to the forum once a year and then people chuck money in to keep it up and running.
Maybe. That's up to David, of course. It might well depend on whether the forums are sitting on their own server, or just sharing a bit of space on a server he has running for something else, anyway. My guess would be the latter.
If we're now just a closed site running for us oldies, and certainly now no longer running the review site too, then the server resources and/or bandwidth costs would probably still all fit inside one of those tenner-a-month virtual server options. If that's how it's set up currently (and I have no idea) I rather doubt David would want to muck about with Patreon, etc. But it's just a guess. Best way, if we want to do that, is suggest it to him, but I can imagine a few wrinkles that might well crop up in doing it.

I miss hexus. I find video reviews too annoying, particularly with the current cack fest that is YouTube advertising. Written pages are easier to parse, navigate and interpret imo. This obsession with video presentation just encourages flannel and gossip, too often hysterical for my liking.
I'm with previous posters re club386. The third party handling of competitions means I don't partake, and I rarely visit for reviews etc partly due to the baby taking up a lot of my free time and partly because I can't afford to buy anything new atm thanks to the same, so better not to hear what new stuff is coming. I managed to snag a GPU upgrade while the prices had dipped and I can't afford a new system for ddr5 etc. That's me done for a while hopefully
I agree with most people here, 386 is OK but I always find myself wanting to comment on the articles and then can't.
Also because there is no new news content on here I forget to keep coming back to the forums, also doesn't help that something in here keeps triggering my ESET on my work laptop and IT keep coming and quizzing me about it, don't get much time to check the forums at home.
Forums and review comments certainly would drive engagement, but would the cost of enabling those things be outweighed by the income from it?
