Hope everyone is well and having a good time. We're isolating here so quieter than planned but having a good day and will just stretch out the festivities when we can see people again.

Merry Christmas all
Merry Christmas you rag-tag bunch of hangers-on
Merry Christmas all. I can empathise with a lot of the above. We are having a family Christmas with an immuno suppressed relative so back to doing LFT swabs and hygiene rituals, and the like.
Sammy our water tank pipework sprang a leak in the loft on 22nd. Cue a late visit from a plumber and a lot of board lifting, cutting out of insulation etc. I think we saved the ceiling. It's still holding up so far. The insulation that got wet looks like a write-off and it will take a while for things to fully dry out I fear. You have my sympathies. I hope it's ok there

Merry Christmas and a a Happy New Year to everyone! I'm hoping to spend New Years in Hong Kong, assuming I test negative this time. (Once again facing a disease so severe I have to take a test to know if I have it!).. 2022 was a really good year!
Utter sympathies to those with leak problems. Not a great time for that .... not that any time is.
Had the plumber in here, too, but it was elective. New taps, etc.
As for Christmas, very quiet indeed, largely from choice. But also due to immune suppression etc so not exactly hitting the light fantastic. Sometimes, being a bit of a Grinch has advantages - not having high expectations to begin with, I can hardly moan if they aren't met.
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
Nasty. I don't have a tank in the loft anymore otherwise it would have sprung something similar on me one year for sure (always have some sort of xmas disaster so it's always kind of a relief when I know what this year's is). Mine's more localized than yours, flat roof over window/water into upstairs room thankfully away from electrics; presumably ongoing & only pushed to this stage by the last really heavy rain, plaster holding but will prob need attention. You're ahead of me in the sorting dept because sadly although I was neatly on course, roofer booked in for bang in the middle of the dry bright spell before it turned icy, he was genuinely detained so it's tarpaulin til whenever. This on top of a previously 'fixed' chimney/flashing issue to rear, so yes loft ladders down for xmas, ho ho ho.
Hope your ceiling holds & everything as ok as poss with you, likewise jimbouk of course.

Merry Christmas all, and I hope you all have a fabulous 2023!
merry 4th of january everyone..
been very distracted playing all the shiny games in ultra on my RX6650XT. lost track of time.
our roof leaked a bit too a year or so ago. still got stained wallpaper held on by cupboards in my room. the lead that went up the chimney on the slopey don bit wasnt high enough, so massive downpour it went over the top. and the bit along the chimney, well the builders had cut out the cement to stuff the lead into and recement it but forgot cement it, so it was just a hole, it worked loose over the last decade and all came dribbling in.
as for this christmas, the tiny gutter and drainpipe leaks that just drip now and again and you not bothered about. we couldnt get out to the back garden without holding onto the wall and shuffling, side of the house was a no go, and when we had to gio out ad get the cheap 15p lidl veg and some milk, sister slipped 3 times going to the gate and we slid along the pavement 6 or 7 times in just 3 blocks.
didn't help there was a layer of frozen leaf mush from the trees. took half n hour to walk about a mile.
at least we had a massive pan of custard with some lemon swiss roll
