What do I want for Christmas ? - Help!

Cross posted from OCUK as HEXUS is my home but over there I will (hopefully) get a lot more people with ideas!

It's that time of year again, I, a grown up who buys himself pretty much whatever he wants (within reason) have to give some hints and suggestions to my wife for presents.... I can never think of anything.
So far I thought I wanted a GN deskpad, but they're about £35 once shipping is included and I think that's a bit OTT, and that's it, I can't think of anything else... PC 'stuff' ? (from a non techie wife) Clothes? (meh)
To make it worse I think I've knocked it out of the park this year with her presents, the stars aligned and devine inspiration hit me like a tonne of bricks so I REALLY have to think of something..

What I've got for her in case any cares (you don't)

    - 'Up' Lego house (she loves Up and it will go in her new workspace)
    - Propagation sytem (she loooves plants) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386293733261
    - A purse (she specifically asked for)
    - Plant Animals (did I mention she loves plants?) - https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Another...g_id=985646930

So what are you lot wanting so I can steal your ideas?

I had to come up with a list too, which is always a pain.
    So far I have listed:

Loads of expensive outdoor clothing, made from technical fabrics and with oodles of 'tactical features... which basically means lots of pockets.
    Swiss Army knives
    M.2 drives
    Torches
Fancy shower gel from Noble Isle

The joys of being a grown assed adult, you want something, you buy it, makes you hard to buy for though...

Same boat here if there's anything I want that I don't have, its generally cost prohibitive..

    Yup. That.

It's different when kids (the young variety, not the 30+ sort) are involved but, absent that, we gave up presents years ago. We always ended up buying things the other didn't really want, and the only real winners are shops, etc. And for myself, I certainly don't wait for some irrational event (borthday or whatever)to indulge myself, if I want something (and I mean something reasonable and realistic).

So, no help from me either, I'm afraid. There wll be no presents, in any direction, in this household and therefore, no thinking about it, or lists, etc.

For the record, I'm right up for buying Mrs. S presents, every decent chance I get, PROVIDED two conditions are met - I think she'll like it, and it's NOT at a traditional present-giving time. I like to surprise her, out of the blue.

Re: What do I want for Christmas ? - Help!

Yep, it is indeed hard to think of what is left when you can just buy it as an adult (funds permitting of course, depending upon the item).

Spending time with family at Christmas is good enough for me these days, although it doesn't hurt that dinner is usually a part of that.

So based on that thought, perhaps you would enjoy a meal out together?

Obviously the price of that could vary wildly based upon timing, location and various other preferences that are specific to you.

I'm sensing a general theme here....

It's kept pretty simple in our home, one present you would like and one present you need. (Invariably the need ends up being socks or something like that), we just simply don't go mad anymore because like everyone else we tend to buy the things we need or want as and when we need or want them.

The trouble with that is I'm pretty fussy about things like socks. They do vary, contrary to what many might think, and I have my favourites, based on comfort. And I probably have enough for the supply to outlast me. If i did that, I'd end up with the reputation for socks that Imelda Marcos had for shoes. It's how I got the collection of socks (etc) in the first place.

Well, no, IMHO. It takes the stress and frustration out, though.

The 'fun', for us, is a nice, quiet time, with a bit of that time spent with family. That'll do me - family time. Though, as I noted earlier, it's different if there are kids around. I'm not trying to be the Grinch, even if it sounds a bit like it.

Well not really, as Saracen has mentioned, it does take the stress and frustration out of it. Personally for me, I'd prefer to have a peaceful Christmas with the company of family as well as spending some time with friends over the festive period, gifts are simply not a requirement for that. It also means that I get to do nice things at other points in the year when things are needed, such as buying my parents a new sofa recently because they couldn't afford it, or helping my sister out financially when she wasn't working. Instead of simply buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff.

Absolutely different if there are younger children involved though!

Yeah, I'm definitly not one for gifts. Apparently when someone asks what I want for Christmas some grey floor paint isn't the right answer...

Everyone seems to have ideas when I realised I could do with a small torque wrench so we'll see what turns up!

I'm at an age when I've pretty much got all the stuff I could ever need, & if I do need anything in particular, it's just easier if I buy it for myself. The only thing I would suggest would be intangible things like tickets to music gigs, comedy shows, theatre, or just a meal at a pleasant restaurant are often appreciated, although obviously you do need to know the kind of events a particular person might enjoy.
