Happy New Year + 2024 resolutions

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and for anyone else who had a 2023 like mine farewell to the crappy year that just was.

Resolutions? I'll start with not listening to toxic people who just drag you down. Now I just have to find how to evict them from my head...

I'm also trying to be more positive, so I'm moving to the north pole.

Happy New Year. Yes glad to see the back of 2023 though as I know whats coming in 2024 not really looking forward to this year either so my new years resolution is to design and build a time machine.

    Have a good year everyone
    Jon

    Happy New Year all!

I've been busy with a house move/renovation this year and have neglected working out, this is going to change so I'll get back to the rowing and beat my 2023 press-up total (~47,000, aiming for 70,000 in 2024) anyone fancy some friendly competition?

    Happy new year all!

My 2023 was actually pretty positive, so I'm taking the things I learned from that and doing more of the stuff that worked well so hopefully 2024 will be even better

My dad got me Arnold Schwarzenegger's self help book for Christmas which tells you a lot about my 2023 Read a bit and it's actually reasonable, with a generous pinch of salt. So maybe not go all in and change the world, but yeah I can join with the 'be more positive' camp.

Re: Happy New Year + 2024 resolutions

This was shaping into my kind of thread, 'hoping for a good year but not expecting much tbh', til a few optimists turned up . Resolutions, well a few bigger ones but some more modest aims too, ie try to curb bad habits like running 5 asstd mobiles and 3 laptops, 4 different ebays, 2 different paypals, god knows how many email addresses, shut a few hundred browser tabs, all that jazz .

Re: Happy New Year + 2024 resolutions

Well, I've sworn off resolutions until I break one I made quite a few years ago. I'm still on-track though, and unusually (for me, at least) haven't yet broken it.

    .
    .
    .
    .

    What was that you said?

What's the resolution I haven't broken yet? Oh, didn't I say ( ) ..... not to make New Year Resolutions, of course.

As for positivity, I am (these days) a very positive person. I got a life-changing shock a few years ago, and as a result, changed quite a few things in my life. Part of it was to learn to ignore any bad things that you can't change, because, well, you can't change them. Some things just are.

Instead, make the most of every opportunity. Try a new hobby, read a new book, sample a new recipe .... or style of cuisine. Go for a walk on a nice day. Whatever. There's a thousand possibilities and when you've done them, there's another thousand to try. There is ALWAYS something you can do to make your day a little (or, sometimes, a lot) better but only if you get off your butt and do them. If you wait for them to come and find you ..... you will need a good book, because it'll be a long wait.

Whatever your situation, come to terms with what you can't change and move past it, and then maximise what you can. You'll enjoy life more and often, it's in the small things.

    Happy New Year, everyone.
