AMD CAUSED something of a ruckus last night by winning the Computer Trade Show award for Best CPU Manufacturer at a shindig sponsored by Intel.
Awards, presented by Intel, were given out throughout the night. However, the Intel lady left the AMD award until last, and walked off the stage rather than present it personally to a jubilant set of chaps.

We got some blurry 3am bar-room photos of the award itself, which AMD were said to be delighted with. There's a nice big 'Sponsored by Intel' logo in the corner. How wonderfully ironic.

Now thats funny!

I have a different take on that one.

Intel cant afford to be "dominant" in the marketplace. The US laws on unfair domination on the marketplace are complex and its possible that AMD NEED to be seen to be in competition with Intel. If Intel were to destroy AMD and were left as the only CPU manufacturer, they'd get slapped down by the US Goverment for unfair business practices, domination etc.

SO, I see it this way: rather than give AMD money to help them stay afloat, they give them an award instead

If a monopoly succeeds purely by having a better product and by organic growth there is little or nothing that the government can do about it, especially in the US. I hardly think intel would consider giving AMD an award to be any sort of decent cover for some of the underhand tactics they've been accused of.

But nobody has come on here and said AMD deserve the Award as they sure do for the release of the Athlon64 939 range which have been nothing short of great for gaming

Now add to this the fact that AMD chips run cooler than cool and have the "hypertransport" which is a great idea.

I half agree with zak33's great conspiracy theory but in the end AMD deserved the award simple as so lets agree to just say the processors did all the hard work
