    My thumb

I know the mods/admins don't like talking about medical stuff, but i'm just wondering what you guys may think that this is, i will go see a doctor sometime, but i just wana hear your thoughts.

Well, i click my fingers alot, trying to stop though.

Anyway, my left thumb really hurts now when i try to click it, so i just don't, its done this before but for like a day, its been doing it for like 2 weeks now, and recently its started to get really stiff, and today its started twitching by itself (you can actually see the twitch if im not using my thumb)

Any ideas what this may be?

It's bad aparently, gives you arthritis when you get older.

My dad told me it was just popping some air bubbles inbetween your fingers. But even still.. its bad aparently. I do it with my toes too.. and my left ankle (but i broke that, so sometimes i can't help it)

Surely you should stop clicking your fingers then?

I had junior arthritis when I was younger in both my knees and elbows, I can confim that the popping is just the air between your bones but it is not a good idea to do it as it wears down the joints.

Air bubbles??? I always thought it was dislocating the joints slightly! When it starts hurting it's definitely time to stop, lol.

Easier said than done, i can do that, and just stop. But then i end up doing it without realising sometimes, like in the morning i don't even realise it and do it.

I know, its a terrible habbit . I click my fingers all the time, however in one of my knuckles, it seems to get stuck and is painful sometimes. As for arthiritis, I thought it was a wives tale that clicking fingers could do this. Anyway, I've seen loads of medical sites, try googling for that.

i've spoken to a few rheumatologists that ive studied with over the last couple of years and they seem to say that no-one really knows what causes it. the air bubbles is a theory tho. i click my fingers too and i really notice the difference in strength (ie holding onto the handlebars of my bike or climbing) when i manage to stop for a week or so.

Yeah, I would have thought that by clicking your fingers you're just gonna agrivate the cartiledge and your joints and loosen the tendons/ligaments or whatever holds your fingers in place.

Well I'm afraid I have no sympathy for you then. The simple thing is not to do it if it hurts.

    Try sitting on your hands.
