i used to use yahoo until bout two years ago. since then used MSN

pfft msn7 is Fugly, huge in comparison to msn6, uses a bit more memory (ok so 1meg isnt much but every byte counts) uses more real estate, has that horrible new way of showing your name... I know all the other annoying things can be turned off (like the pictures, adds etc) but its still not as nice as trillian or msn 6.2

you can still get old versions of msn messenger from oldversion.com

a while back (last summer) i was running msn 1 - the smileys were much much nicer back then (anyone remember them?? the cute little ones)

as it is, i just use windows messenger, which isnt bloatware unlike msn messenger


incidentally, i think one of the worst things with icq was the spam - it was full of it! msn seems pretty spam-resistant

you can download all the clients from www.mess.be but you can't use the old versions anymore, before 4.7 iirc. But if you use Syfx then you can.

Good thing about ICQ was the off-line messages (you can message people who are offline and they will receive the message when they log on). I got an 8 digit number too. Only use it for a couple of old friends though. I use trillian in any case.

I was on ICQ for about 5 years and now just use MSN, its not that bad when you download that little patch that gets rid of all the adverts and pictures. Still I think I only ever chat to about 5 people on my list of 40 contacts anyway.

Yeah that patch does wonders as I couldn't stand those bloomin adverts. I'm only using msn because most people seem incapable of using ICQ as it's deemed "too complicated" for the computer illiterate . Shame ICQ isn't as popular as it used to be, it still beats msn any day with the amount of features it offers.

Not always a good idea as there have been a lot of security issues in older versions.

some very old versions of msn dont have version-checking, so do, iirc, work..

My mother got on fine with it... she's not brilliant at computers by any stretch of the imagination... prolly techy critics tbh
