at the moment i stand at £1000 overdrawn and about £10k student loan and £100 on my CC
so i'm not TOO bad.
I'm £400 overdrawn (still gotta pay this terms rent etc), £8.5k student loan and £300 on CC. Hoping to pay off my CC and get well out of my overdraft when I work in the summer.
I think I'm doing ok.

No parental support at allOriginally Posted by Elmo
I'm acting as though I'm getting no support at all - that way, in my mind, I'm trying to get all I can on my own two feet, anything else is a bonus. I'll still struggle, but there we go!Originally Posted by Marcos
Yeah, I knew some ppl who didn't rack up ANY debt because their parents just paid everything for them... what ever happened to grants is what I want to know, university used to be free, now its just for the RICH or those who want to get in lots DEBT....Originally Posted by Elmo

I really don't see any point in repaying your student loan quicker than you need to. Check out http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com for lots of help and information, they have a dedicated section for students.
Oh I totally agree, its about the cheapest loan you will ever have - whats the point in paying it off with a CC?Originally Posted by luap.h

the point, in my eyes, is that i dont like owing money, and i'm crap at saving. a result of which, i'm now completely debt free and paying off £0/month. if i'd not paid any off i'd currently be paying about £5/month off (on £16k at the mo), which is less than the interest would be, even on a mere £3.5k!

Eh? £5/month? I think it would be a tad more.Originally Posted by 5lab

nope. it works out as (off the top of my head) 9% of everything you earn over 15kpa pre-tax... 9% of £1000 works out at 90, into 12 months gives, ooh £7 a month? something like that, and i'm not quite on 16k at the mo..
it used to be 9% of everything over £10k
