Whistle Stop Tour of England :-)

I have been to the following towns in the last 2 weeks, and wondered how many of you lived there, or had visited

Moday 9th - Soham, :- Nice, friendly and welcoming
Tues 10th- Wakefield,:- Bigger than I realised, and typical large town
Tues 10th- Preston:- Don't be offended but I won't again
Wed 11th- Birmingham City Centre:- Well suporised...HOW CLEAN!! Drove in through Solihull and was equally gobsmacked how tidy, clean and shiny it all is.
Wed 11th- Gloucester:- seemed a bit run down, but nice people and ace journey back along the forgotten A40 in evening sunlight through green valleys
Thurs 12 - Beaconsfield and then AYelsbury.....quite close to home....no comment
Friday 13th- Gravesend...never expected to be able to see the Thames Estaury so close, but nice suprise
Friday 13th- Chelmsford, really nice place, lots of smiles

Mon 16th - Braintree, not bad, everyone I met seemed stressed..maybe cos its Monday.
Mon 16th - Colchester, same really. Must be a Monday thing, but nice enough town
Tues 17th - Ewell Surrey .... wont do that again
Tues 17th - Catford......nahh.....now THAT was traffic....blimey. Nice people, but what a nightmare to drive in
Wed 18th- Northampton. Never been, very local to me too....nice actually. Big and nice park area. Suprised
Wed 18th Kettering- Just a town really :/
Thurs 19th - Shrewbury , nice enough, seemed closer to my home town of Aylesbury than expected, good drive there, seemed ok place
Thurs 19th - Oswestry, really liked that town, dead nice people in the shops, modern and old town together. Will return.
Fri 20th - Narborough, didn't expect to like, but everyone was dead nice.
Fri 20th - Mountsorrell, quiet, and unassuming. Dead end place though

Soo....there ya go. How knackered? Very. 2500 miles and more next week, but having seen SO MUCH of the UK in 10 working days, I thought I see if YOU Lived there

bf lives in wakefield, spend a lot of time there, it's nice, he lives right next to the massive thornes park. Shame about the high concentration of chavs tho, they seem to emerge and multiply on westgate on a friday night lol

You'll have to come visit scotland for a bit once you've finished with england. The highlands are v.pretty, and you can find some real gems up in rural scotland in terms of towns and villages. Scotland isnt just about glasogow, edinburgh and aberdeen etc.

Bolton isn't particularly far from Preston I've been to most of the places on the list except the last three - never heard of them!

Birmingham city center is indeed ridiculously clean these days man, they've worked really hard on it recently and put in a £50 on the spot fine for dropping anything vaugley resembling litter on the floor.

I'm a Shrewsbury lad. Tis a nice town. Probably the nicest town in the midlands. Hated it until I lived in Leeds (uni) for a few years and then returned to love it. Quite upper-middle class for most parts. Great countryside sounding it. Loads of history and all that. Live about 3 miles outside now in a large country cottage with my girlfriend. What were doing there if you don't mind me asking?

Nice countryside, but still has that welsh bordertown attitude. Very small town mentality. Visit in the evenings if you fancy a fight with a chav/redneck/young farmer. I do know some lovely people who live there but I can't stand the place personaly.

Hmm... youve been to Aylsebury, and went to Northampton too... but no stops at Milton Keynes... you missed something out unless of course the "no comment" about Aylsebury being close to home was reference to this... if it is...dont be ashamed!

PS: wouldnt say its a full whistle stop tour... youve not been anywhere on the southcoast....

Tues 17th - Catford......nahh.....now THAT was traffic....blimey. Nice people, but what a nightmare to drive in
Elite Honda? That's 300yds from my family home. I still live less than a mile away. As for the traffic, now you know why I tend to only do 1500 miles a year. I often overtake my wife's aunt in the morning on my way into Catford- she drives, I jog.

Anyway, next time, give me prior warning and I'll introduce you to Catford's finest watering holes.
