Gmail - Buggy and a security risk?

I have been using Gmal for about 2 months now and I am thinking of stopping using it.

The first thing is security - if every email you ever have is archived, what are the security implications? If someone ever somehow got you password think of all the sensitive emails you may have stored - password reminders etc etc.

Also, has anyone been finding problems with attachments? Sometimes I download (thunderbird) about 10+ copies of the same one, but the attachment size is usually slightly different for each one (bits missing etc). Anyone else found this?

I have used it now for the past 6 months and never ever had a problem with it.

Just make sure you keep your password safe and take simple precautions.

If you're concerned about someone reading your archived e-mails why not just POP3 them and save them? That way you can delete them all but keep a backup incase you need to go back to them. I've used Gmail for about 8 months now and it rocks the ba**s off hotmail, yahoo and the others.

Setting 'delete from server' in Thunderbird, Outlook or my mobile does not work with Gmail. You have to manually delete using thier website.

Personally, I do on the whole like Gmail but still think Yahoo is better. It's just that you have to pay a small fee for the massive storage capasity. I have been using Yahoo mail for around 12 years now without a single glitch. I think I will use Yahoo as my main but I will keep using Gmail as well. Hotmail is, and always has been, a utter waste of time.

You can set the POP settings in Gmail to delete the messages when retrieved by POP.

    ?

Ive been using yahoo for years and if it wernt for the crappy javascript enabled bloated site.. and the fact it never remembers your password - only ID I would claim its the best free email site in the world. (second only to running your own email sever off the worlds most reliable connection that I dont currently have )
Never used gmail and I dont particually want to. The 1gb free seems to have attracted lots of people to them who will never get close to filling it up.
But who needs a gigabyte? I certinally dont (although my yahoo is now upgraded to 1gb for free.. which I will never use..)

Hotmail is utter poo. Tthe worst thing is how they send you html emails about 2mb in size every day, telling you to upgrade your 10mb inbox to 25mb for x many quid a month... when if they just stopped spamming you, you would never need more than 5mb!

never had a problem with gmail - i find it very simple to use, with great features. The lots of storage is great - if you forget something , say a URL or a password (maybe after a format?) then you can just search your archive for it

The security issue is a none starter really if you have a proper secure password (ie at least 8 chars, mixture of cases and numbers and symbols) - but then its true that most people are idiots who either use one password for everything, or just use something simple like 'avilla' or '<insertnamehere>'. They are just asking for it tho

comparing to yahoo? no contest..Gmail is much easier to use, faster in my experience, less bloated and its free

pop3 access here all set to "remove from server" once downloaded so no need to panic really as the only mails I seem to get to my gmail address are either " Oi... pub @ 8 " or heathy alternatives to a penis enlargement

JFYI - AOL have just launched a free 2 Gb webmail for their AIM users ( yay... more space ) so it looks like the mail wars are hitting part 2 now

It doesn't archive them, if you tell it to delete, it will be sent to the trash can, then you can remove it permantly by deleting from the trash can.

As for the other thing, well you know how you can have conversations in gmail? and its all contained into one ...hmm lets just call it a thing , well thats what that is... to stop that from this moment on, click Settings at the top right > Forwarding & Pop 3 > Radio: Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on, and then change whatever you want under 2. When messages are accessed with POP.

    Enjoy
