Gel Wrist Rests - Any Ideas?

Lately my the small bone on the bottm left of my right wrist has been getting quite sore when I'm using the computer. It's no surprise really since its in direct contact with the desk but I figure it's time to get a decent mouse mat with or as well as a good gel wrist rest.

I'm using a bog standard MS Optical wheel mouse so it has to work with one of those obviously. Cheap would be good but yea I know, you get what you pay for and all that there.

    So....

Anyone got any products they'd like to recommend?

I just got one from PCWorld, shaped like a bootay!

I never had problems with my wrist, I got it because I don't like using mouse mats with optical mice and so it's to raise my wrist off the desk.

I bought a lovely gel one from argos for about £9.99 it was see through etc.

Or you can get them cheaper (and they are lower) from ebuyer, or you can just get a wrist wrest for the mouse etc.

Mind you i wouldn't go hitting people with the keyboard wrist wrest they hurt quite a bit!!!

(i use an ebuyer mouse pad -eggplant or something and that was a little over £1, and i also bought a few standalone gel wrist wrests a little bigger than a mars bar, say if you use the mouse on the desktop or whatever.)

its very very bad to use a wrist rest for a mouse cos it makes you use your wrist more to use the mouse, less use of the arm, which puts more straign on the wrist

you could try getting used to a trackball, or just adjust your posture generally

News to me. How big is your mouse if you have to move your arm to use it?

thats not the point.. i believe that the problem is a wrist wrest will stop you moving your arm at all (which you should do when you use a mouse) and make you overstraign a mouse.

Should You Use Wrist Supports or Palm Rests?

Wrist and palm supports are heavily debated in the ergonomics world. Some experts advise against it because resting the wrist on something might cause compression under the wrist, reducing circulation. These experts recommend keeping your hands floating over the computer keyboard like you would when playing the piano.
when i started work, during the introductory b*ll*x we were told not to use them.

personally when using a mouse alot i will rest my wrist on the table and move from the elbow when going large distances. i dont use a mat or owt

    Hmm interesting points.

I'm pretty sure its more to do with the fact that the hard table is pressing against the skin as opposed to the usage of my wrist being the cause of the pain. Sticky out bone is rubbing against the table.
