like everyone else who thinks that, you are wrong. students can simply get a tax code that allows them not to pay tax if they earn a lot of money for a short amount of time, but still fall under the lowest tax band - ie if a student earns nothing all year but 2k a month for july and aug, they pay no tax, wheras someone earning 2k a month every month would pay a lot in july and aug. if that makes sence.

I'll earn it when my rise comes through! Which hopefully will be the end of the month AND backdated!

Still think I'm worth more though, and thats not a biased comment.

Those are only real issues if people let it get to them. Plenty of people are over paid, plenty of people are under paid, plenty of people are rich, alot more are poor, so what.

I work during the summer months when I'm not at uni, will probably earn around £1500-2000 this summer. Will most likely need to do some work during term time next year.

spot on - however if your working/living/friends with people who do let it get to them it can make a lot of situations very uncomfortable.
    It is Inevitable.....

Maybe because, essentially, it's none of anybody else's business?

Personally, I don't object to being asked, provided the asker doesn't object to me not answering.

When I worked in a a camera shop it was the rich regular customers who drove by far the hardest bargains....which is most likely the reason why they were rich.

That is so true. My girlfriends parents are pretty well off and you wouldn't believe how much free stuff they push for, or they try to get discounts on everything!

    So not fair...

Actually, while what people are paid is thier business I am more than happy to tell people what I earn.

I understand while some people don't (Ashamed/Arrogant/Private natured?), I think if people where generally more open, honest and transparent about what they earn if would solve a few problems regarding the equality of pay in this country. Which at the moment is a mess. It's one of the biggest let downs with a capitalist system - For example, why should someone who dedicates thier life to working 12 hours a day looking after sick old people be paid less than some city boy who sits there and pushes bits of meaningless paper around a desk all day. I know thats the way it is, but there you go.

At my work everyone had their pay increased by some degree, based on an appraisal system. I was not until i suggested that everyone say what they got in a staff meeting that some people found out they had been very unfairly treated. Some people had the rate increased. If we are always open, then our head office can't screw the 'yes' people as they have tried in the past.

That cant be possible. On average, everyone earns what they are worth. Some get more, some get less.

I get paid enough to those who are asking

I dont mind private wages - if people are too scared to ask for more money, thats their problem. There is also the issue of teh person that thinks they are better than they are and see someone more usefull's wages and get all p1ssed off.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what the average earnings for a working person in this country are?
