    A muscle is an organ. So is skin etc. An organ is an organised collection of tissues, which is an organised collection of cells. An organism is an organised collection of organs.

    So yes, its both.

    It's a muscular organ, apparently.
    The heart is a muscular organ located just to the left of the breast bone
    (sternum). It is about the size of your fist, and this amazing muscle pumps
    4300 gallons of blood a day. The heart has four chambers:

    * Atria. The top two chambers that receive blood from the body
    * or lungs.
    * Ventricles. The bottom two chambers. The right ventricle pumps
    * blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen, The left ventricle pumps blood to the rest of the body and is the strongest chamber.
    * Valves. There are four valves in the heart that help to direct blood flow. As they open and close, the valves produce sounds that can be heard with a stethoscope.

    yes it's an organ - it just happens to made of very dense muscle tissue... the stomach, also an organ, is also made largely of muscle tissue.....

    The heart is a pump, muscles must be needed somewhere because it wouldn't be able to pump the blood around the body without muscle

    What i do know is that we would be well and truly buggered without one

    it is an organ that is made of muscle. I study muscle for a job, I would therefore like to pose that the question itself is wrong not the answer...it is BOTH muscle and organ.
    now; define organ.
