Which would be better... money-wise

What do you guys think would be better money-wise?

When I'm 16 get a moped, or save the money up for when I'm 17 to get a car?

I heard that insurance can be expensive for cars when your 17, but I've looked around on these quoteing sites on the net, and it doesn't seem that bad, just need a decent job .

I'd say get a car and then get the following fitted to get cheaper insurance ;

As long as your a safe driver and adhere to the limits then the premiums should get lower and lower saving you in the long-term.

Celtrak has now joined forces with an insurance company to offer the scheme in Britain. It plans to recruit 500 volunteers by the end of next month and to offer the device to any young driver aged 18-25 from early next year

I had a moped when I was 16 and loved it, I was mobile while all my friends were still getting the bus. Why not get a motorbike when you're 17 instead of a car?

I like bikes and such, but I would feel safer with a car, although I'd probably find a motorbike more fun.

on some insurance polocies you can use a 1st year ncb earned on a moped to serve you on your car - co-op definately used to do this..

Also a moped will give you experience on the roads, ready for a car.

2 of my mates go mopeds - then i got a car.

could fit far more friends in the car than on the mopeds - plus you got your music and they are safer.

I do a lot of mountain biking, which sometimes to get to the main off road parts, I need to be on the road for a while anyways.

i guess a big point you need to consider is how desperate do you need to get around? if you really need to get around then looks like go for moped. If you can wait - then maybe go for the car.

I'm not seriously desperate or anything.

Just for pleasure really, I will use it for work in the future though (if needed), but when I'm 17 I'll just use it for making my friends jealous and going to college

Don't compare cars to mopeds, compare them to motorbikes since that's what you can ride at 17. Whoop-de-do, you've got music. On the other hand, you haven't got the great pleasure of riding a bike. I know what I'd prefer.
