You'll still have to study a course in a uni/college/education centre for like.. a day a week, btw.
The Apprenticeships around where i live and *really* bad. All the lectures and colleges wont have anything to do with them.
Lot of scams going on with them at the moment apparently

Your best bet is to do some voluntary hanging about your local friendly PC companies. Get yourself noticed and get yourself a weekend job. This will make things far easier for you when you leave.
You mean at local PC shops or bigger places?

I mean local PC shops. Bigger retailers don't require anybody with any knowledge about PCs are about anything else for that matter.
Start small and work up. Bypass the high-street morons and try to use your knowledge to get into someone like IBM or Dell.
P.S. It might help if you were living in India for the last two......
