its part of the video 'billabong oddessy' (sp) which was a big wave comp held a couple of years back - that was either the winning wave, or number 2 or 3. 70foot in total.

    yeah its incredible.

I think I may have seen that in the adverts before the film in the cinema. Very cool.

Is it the one where at first it almost looks like hes surfing on flat water and then slowly a massive wall of water builds up behind him?

    Thats the one

I've stayed in (west) australia where they had these huge 80-90 feet waves and they had a comp on ! they used boards, boats and these weird paddle type things to ride them and it was the most intense thing I've ever witnessed. the tit that I am forgot my camera, but amazing to recall. and was even madder was that there was only a small area of beach the rest of the surrounding area was rocks.

    surfers are cool.

they use jetskis to get up to speed, or else they dont go fast enough to get onto the wave. biggest wave ever ridden is, iirc 77 foot. they won a grand for each foot of the wave off billabong..

the jetskis have lifeboards behind them and they can get in quick enough between waves - if someone gets wiped out they need to get in and get em out before the next wave, or its very possible to get really mashed up
