    Customs + Shipping from USA...

    Here is my dilemma:

I would quite like a SN95G5 V3 shuttle. No-where in the UK has stock of them.

Newegg.com have them for $289. I can throw in a 3000+ venice CPU and that brings the total to $429 (~ £240 GBP).

I can only deliver to a US address, so this is where parcel2go.com come in. You can setup a US address and they will ship it to the UK for a price.

I'm assuming the Shuttle + CPU will be more than 10Kg but less than £25. This means £74.99 to ship from USA to UK. Expensive? Yes, but £315 is better than the UK Price of ~£330. And I will be definately getting a V3 (so the venice will work!).

However, How much will the customs charge be? or is there no upper limit?

    Thanks

Read through that PDF - thanks bcfcrule - looks likes just VAT then, so 17.5% on top of £240 = ~£40 extra. so £355 all in?

Gordy - I read that the V3 is the only SN95G5 to officially support the 90nm cores (and X2 processors). Might just bite the bullet and get a V2 and cross my fingers...

Unless the package is marked as a gift the customs charge could be significant, as it could include VAT.

I'm fairly certain I could ship it to ya for well under £75, with no customs charge.

VAT + import tax/handling comes to around 20% in the end.

Even if you mark it as a gift that doesn't mean you can dodge paying duty. You also need to budget for the handling fee that your courier will charge for doing the customs paperwork.

Yup, for my £190 PSP I was charged £43.75 Customs VAT and £8.00 clearance fee..

Luckily the company I bought it from refunded the charges..

basically, 22.5% is the average including fees for clearance, for example, the Parcel force charge was £8 on a package at the office today, that was ontop of the £14 duties.....

I'm pritty sure the last thing I sent to the UK had no extra charge on it. I marked it as gift on the customs form and understated it's value by about 95%.

Understating the value is why you didn't get charged. If its below £18 (£30 for gifts i think) then you won't get hit by customs.
