I got community service for having a fridge in my halls at Uni. Cheeky fecker tried to give me 20hours but I got him down to 2 after stating that it wasn't explicit in the rules. He was a bit of a Hitler charactor tho!!

Eh, its not a criminal offence, how the hell did you community service?Originally Posted by kempez815
acording to our halls rules we're not allowed to plug in computers. Only televisions. No hair straightners, but you are hair driers.
They went balistic when they came in to find me soldering one time
As people said, don't try it without permission, some halls will rent you a mini fridge for about 15£ per term.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
I technically wasn't allowed one. My cleaner was cool so I got away with it.
Kempez815 which uni are you at?
I have bought a Husky one, haven't check wether it is allowed though
My college in Durham actually has fridges in a few rooms but I don't think its allowed otherwise. There are also kitchens on every floor with a fridge (not ideal but not too bad either) for random crap like cheese and milk.
Basically take it and only get take it away if they explicitly say that they will take it if you dont get take it yourself. I don't think many halls have the ability to actually punish you for having a fridge, just say you didnt know and it should be alright for a while.
Depends if you have cleaners or not, get on the right side of them and you're sorted. Piss them off and you're in a world of pain...
thing is, if someone has a faulty one that causes any sort of damage whilst you're at lectures etc then it wont be covered by the insurance cos it hasnt been checked. Fair enough if it's only ur own stuff it does damage to, but if it was to cause a fire say and it spread through some of the rooms on ur floor, i dont think the other people in the flat would be too chuffed to find that they arent covered by the insurance.
That's the realistic side to doing it on the sly. I do know a lot of people that had things in their halls on the sly that they shouldnt have, but should anything go wrong, the sh*t really will hit the fan.
A friend of mine took his in, i think it was stafford uni, he also filled his room with other electronics. I don't think they ever mentioned anything. I will be disappointed if i can't take mine
I was in halls in University College London at the time. Gave me "community service" but it wasn't official stuff - just for breaking the rules of the halls. We were allowed to plug PC's in tho - now THAT is OTT!!Originally Posted by Thomas_C
Plus our halls had a T3 business connection....mmmm....super fast pr0n!!
Maybe if I'd ever read the halls handbook......
I just lived sensibly. The staff, thankfully, stayed out of my business (never came into individual rooms). Still wish I'd taken the time off work to find a house to stay in rather than halls.
Yup in our OLD buildings, everything is a fire hazard, especially with the old electrical systems.Originally Posted by tiggerai
Just one more reason I won't ever go into halls. Crap net connections, no decent appliances, the list goes on.
We got in real trouble when we let halls because we all smoked in the sitting room, there was brown sauce on the ceiling and we had let Dave Gorman stay after a comedy gig and he wrote us a thankyou on the wall! We were naughty boys and girls.
Not around too often!
The only direct complaint against me was to do with throwing a 'Henry' hoover at the security guard.Originally Posted by menthel
haha...halls are a great laugh. I was in catered halls, but quite a few people had mini (and htey were mini) fridges under their desks and hidden etc.
Some people took the piss though. I know someone who had 4 computers in their room on 24/7 as servers he could connect into etc...
And uber fast internet...
Yeah halls were a good laugh tbh.
