    Free web hosts

Can anyone recommend a good free web host? I don't need much space but would like to host some very basic pages, photo's and other files. External image linking is a must too.

/Start rant Tripod and Yahoo are usless. But my ISP's (wanadoo) web hosting service is absolutly s**t, I mean its so unreliable and studpidly overly complicated to use (even if you just want to upload and share a basic file) its a joke. I mean just how restrictive can you make a basic bit of FTPing? And its even ment to be aimed is total newbies FFS. It enough to put people off it for life.. Another wasted afternoon. Idiots. /rant over.

Sorry 'bout that, any suggestions then?

There are some very good low-cost hosts... i'd recommend them over a free service anytime... www.34sp.com and www.3dpixelnet.com are two i've had good service with.

Not free I'm afraid, but I use Supanames a lot their basic linux package is only £13.99 for the year including a .co.uk domain.... (which is roughly 26p a week? ).
Last thing I bought from them was a .com + pro hosting; it was setup overnight and ready to go
We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

Yeh i'm with supanames as well, they're awesome, 99.9% uptime (i can voucher for that) and support where e-mails are answered within the hour (mine are usually 20 mins). The basic linux package is indeed very good, you can get cheaper but their support is just awesome and they make everything super easy for you

You need to have a domain name though. (Don't have to buy it off them or anything)

    30mb disk space,
    1.5gb bandwidth,
    php, unlimited mysql databases,
    no adverts,
    direct admin / cpanel

    etc

    Heres the hosting I use, don't know if it ranks with the best, but because it's small they offer pretty unreal free hosting;

    3,000 MegaBytes Webspace
    FTP Import Access
    Web Upload Option
    100 GigaBytes Monthly XFer
    PHP and MySQL (Upgrade Fee)
    SSI and More

Totally free (not much space though), and best of all - no ads!!!

NOTE - this info may be old, but AFAIK is still correct.
