So who here has built a successful HTPC?

I'm thinking about building a HTPC based in a low profile case such as the Hiper Media Chassis (http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20051003/index.html) but having read the problems the TH guys ran into using that case i'm left a little less enthrilled. So back to my original question, who where has built a quiet fully fledged HTPC (HDTV, S-Video, DVI etc) using a low profile case and if so what components did you use?

I am running a Hiper as part of mine - and the main thing which it causes pain to is the HDD - infact 2 of mine have become corrupted now because of it and I am unable to format them again.

Is that through heat build up or movement of the SATA connector?

I have! I am currently putting the finishing touches (adding a second tuner, improving remote control & woman friendliness) to a mythbox in a Silverstone LC04 - couldn't be happier with it...just a pain that it only allows one PCI slot.

Using s-video out at the mo - works fine, but might switch to a geforce 6 series card for component out and less cpu usage for outputting mpeg-II.

I'm running some Epox based nforce 2 board (8rda+, I think) with an AMD 1500+ mobile, which runs at a tepid 35 under load under a "so-quiet you think it could be broken" panaflo fan.

Quite a low spec really, but dvb really doesn't need a great deal of CPU power.

I am considering one of these chassis:

    http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-sg01.htm

    http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc02.htm

    or

    http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc11m.htm

This will be my secondary media centre - in the bedroom - since downstairs I have an Intel 'OurRoom' PC coming - which is the same one which Alienware, and HiGrade sell.

No data is held on the remote PC - but the applications I use and I want the net access means I can't use a media extender.

Films and Music are held on my Sysnology box (with a 400GB drive)

Gives much more flexibility and more hard-drives are able to be used for storage
