    Plastic bottle campaign

Ripped shamelessly from another forum, I think it makes for some interesting discussion :

    Plastic Bottle Campaign
whilst i'd rather drink from a glass, I think this a good idea. I already know plenty of venues which use plastic glasses. Not a problem, and makes the whole gig a lot safer. My only real issue with them is that they're a bit flimsy... And very wasteful, too.

My university bar used to use re-usable plastic pint glasses, and they were basically fine albeit not quite as nice as drinking from a proper glass. I suppose it comes down to the area and clientelle of the venue- my local pub almost never has any trouble so there's no reason for them to stop using glasses; OTOH the Venue (a big club in New Cross) has used plastic pint glasses for as long as I can remember. They still serve glass bottles though as my wife found out when someone dropped one on her foot.

In clubs I agree tbh but in pubs I fail to see the point, you gonna ban pool cues aswell? they leave a fair bit of damage if you crack someone in the face with em.....

There are only usually 2-4 pool cues in pubs/clubs. Everyone in a pub has a glass bottle or pint glass. That means in a fit of rage any drunken thug is automatically armed. Is they were plastic, they would have to go and find a weapon. most likely they would just punch or kick which lets face it is a lot less likely to permanently scar or kill.

Whilst your at it I think that all cricket bats sold in this country should be made of foam so that they break instantly the second someone hits something with it.

The problem is not with the glass it's self, the problem is our tolerance of the arseholes who are prepared to "glass" someone just because they looked at them. You can tell a wrong'un from 20 yards away - it's letting these people into the premises to drink that's the problem.

And when they do commit assualt some lovely old judge will give them a slap on the wrist and say "don't do it again you naughty boy". Until society decides to get tough and insures these types of people are prevented from gaining access to bars we will have these problems.

Just think if all the glasses in a pub where made of the comedy glass - every drunken chav would be smashing them over each others heads for a laff - bar prices would go up and up and up.
