This is really annoying me now

WHY!?!? is it that company's such as Intel and Wannado say you can get free wireless internet access?. OK, you buy broadband from any company available in this god damn country and you can get wireless access anywhere in your home because it's YOUR DECISION NOT THEIRS!. And just because you have a 'Intel something-or-other' processor doesn't mean you can magically have wireless internet access, you need to sign up for an ISP service and make sure you have all the wireless networking gear.

..ok I'm done, it's just really annoying me.

Because intel centrino has all the wireless tech and if you are in a hotspot you can get wireless internet access for free.

I'd find something else to get annoyed about tbh

it has the technology ganted, but still you have to be in a hotspot, and if you are in a hotspot, even if its an unprotected network, it is illegal, as you are stealing bandwidth and without permission accessing someones network.

    i agree with XA

naa mmh, a hot spot is a free area of access, there are hundreds of them about (thousands in the states). (see intels site here.. http://intel.jiwire.com/?iid=ipc+wir..._findhotspots& )

There are large talks about whole cities having complete wireless access anywhere in the city . (with its own issues in america with legal action, loss of revenue to the existing internet providers etc etc.)

But my point is, why worry about something like this?, there are bigger things to worry about than this?, surely.

No, your wrong TiG, they are advertising the PROCESSOR, not their wireless technology. The processor isn't the wireless networking hardware, is it? .

No, Centrino is the Pentium M processor, one of two intel chipsets and a wireless lan card all wrapped up in a laptop.

    Edit: Specifically -
    Intel® Pentium® M processor
Mobile Intel® 915 Express chipset family or Intel® 855 chipset family
    Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection Family

as big rich says, its marchecture, thats all.

TBH its quite good, people still buy wireless gear without WiFi status, some of you won't remeber the pain of gear that dosen't like to talk to other gear, but my god in the "old days" of 802.11b it was hell.

its why so much of the pre n stuff scares me, and i refuse to let clients buy it (even when they *really* want to waste their money).

its not the fact of the notebook has wireless connectivity, theyre basically saying, buy this and you will be online anytime, but in reality you DO have to find a hotspot or setup wireless networking at home.

This is a ridiculous complaint. This is almost as bad as a thread a couple years ago (at thetechzone) where someone was complaining that the Intel commercials with aliens implied you need a Pentium to run multimedia apps (even though the advert was simply a bunch of aliens that started rocking to some beats after plugging in a pentium). Seriously, if this kind of thing gets your goat, you are reading too deeply into it.
