    who loves kung fu movies?

if you like kung fu movies i recommend getting Kung Fu Hustle,
its just out on DVD and its excellent,
the fight scenes are hilarious, just loads of fun and great action,
it reminded me of an old beat em up, with special moves and everything, SOMIC BOOM crazy stuff

I like things like Enter the Dragon, Crouching Tiger, House of flying daggers etc. but never really enjoyed the more slapstick/amusing kung fu films. Also can't really stand Jackie Chan <shrug> not sure why, just never enjoyed his films.

I kove kung fu films. I practised Wu Shu Kwan for 7 years when I was in my late teens/early twenties. It's one of the oldest Shaolin martial arts. Nowadays my brain still knows the moves but my body doesn't want to play!

I've got a Bruce Lee boxed on VHS tapes set that's got:

    - Big Boss
    - Fist of Fury
    - The Way of the Dragon
    - Game of Death
    - Game of Death II

They're old films but classics. Like Funkstar, i'm not a fan of many modern kung fu actors like Jackie Chan.

I only really like Fist of Fury out of all the Bruce Lee films. Kung Fu hustle is a very good movie, but out of all the recent martial arts films ONG BAK is best by far

Jackie Chan movies are hilarious. They are some of my favorites.

for more 'serious' beat 'em up movies, I like jet li.

for beat 'em up movies that I just watch tongue in cheek, I watch about anything (steven segal, jean claude van dam, etc.)

jackie chan films are great, but u cant really compare his films with the crouching tiger style of kung fu movie. In fact i wouldnt really classify most of jackie chans new films as kung fu movies. They are action/comedy which just happen to have some martial arts in.

I must admit I do like some of the Steven Segal/van Damme/Wesley Snipes genre of films as there is some realistic 'street-fighting' martial arts in them.

Kung Fu Hustle had some nice action but I found the film to be mostly incoherent and lame.

Seagal/Van Damme films are good as long as you only want some decent martial arts action but Seagal's aikido isn't very theatrical although Van Damme is always a sure bet with those jumping mid air kicks of his.

Chan/Li are both great but has anyone here checked out any of Donnie Yen's films because I thought he was superb in Iron Monkey and Hero.

Don't forget shaolin soccer (Steven Chow - main actor from kung fu hustle.) This film was actually banned in China due to the non-reality in the film...

Yeh ever since Jackie Chan hit america his movies have been rather pants but he also has made many many martial movies before this in hong kong.
My personal fav has to be Drunken Master 2 aka Legend of the drunken master, some incredibly imaginative fight scenes, the "axe gang" you see in Kung Fu hustle is obviously taken from one of the fight scenes in this movie.

Another winner that comes to mind is the young master, great fight sequences from a very youthful jackie chan with once again another great end fight.

Fav Jet Li film has to be Fist of Legend. Excellent remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of fury with amazing fight scenes, you actually feel the pain of each blow and the crack of each bone in places. excellant !

I also thought Chow Yun Fat was good in crouching tiger, this was the first film i'd see him do some moves, all the other John Woo movies he'd made were shoot-em-ups anyone know of any other martial arts movies he's made?
