Yep. This will of been because of AMD sueing Intel a while ago, for forcing Dell and other such companies to only use Intel processors.

Shortly after the Opteron came out they had a page up selling one of the early ones (like maybe a 244). This would have been 2003 some time. I think the theory was that a customer who had an account with Dell had asked them to source him one so they had complied. Sooner or later I reckon Dell are going to get fed up with losing market share in the 2p-4p space to IBM, HP and Sun and will start shipping Opteron servers. On the desktop, they have far less need to go AMD really.
