    Unhappy Any Solicitors/Legal Eagles?

    Any Solicitors/Legal Eagles out there?

Right, here's the deal. The company I work for has been purchased by a Canadian firm. This happened 2 weeks ago & as yet we've not recieved new contracts of employment. This concerns me as I've been with the firm since Jan 91 & I've been told that it's very, very, very likely that my position will be outsourced to the parent company's office in India. Just want to know where I stand over redundancy payout. That is, if they give me a new contract with the new firm, will my years of service be wiped clean?

No, they can't wipe the slate clean. Legally if they were to make you redundant you'd be entitled to a week's pay for each year of service (in your case presumably 14 weeks). GL though- hope it doesn't happen.

I'm not a legal eagle at all so don't take this as gospel or anything, but having been made redundant and know a friend who has had his contract bought up a while back, here is my take on it from what i remember hearing at the time.

As stated in Moby's link really,

Basically, if the company keeps you on they have to at the same agreement and conditions you had with the original company. With regards to if they make you redundant then iirc you get at least a weeks pay for every year with the company providing you are a full time staff member, have been there more than 2 years and are over 21 or something like that (which i wasn't at the time but you haven't got anything to worry about really)

Pretty much what has already been mentioned though.

Good luck in keeping the job though.

    Bres
