A month or so ago, I noticed a thread on moneysavingexpert for the camera I have been literally lusting over since this time last year.
the canon 350D!
All you needed to do was apply for the egg mastercard, buy it through the currys link on the site and applied a voucher code, did a bit of paperwork through canon and you got this beast for - £360
Compared to the £699 Jessops was recently asking - a bargain!
So I popped onto the egg site, stuck in my details and waited
and waited
and waited.
:- (
and waited.
Then the card arrived! I jumped onto the site, to find the camera had been removed from the product listings. After a little investigation I found that you could still add it to the basket if you did a bit of sneaky sku editing. Everything was set - all added to my basket and ready to go, I entered my card number and realised in my haste, I'd not activated. Twenty minutes later I was sobbing at my keyboard as eggs website informed me that it'd locked my account for security reasons. I gave a call to egg who activated my card - just as I realised the b*gg*rs had sent me a VISA! So I re-applied for the right card, but was informed that it had been declined - why? because the tart at the end of the phone put my application through as student - so I was told the underwritter would ring the next day and the application could only be changed by her.
Next day came and went. I rang and got through to the underwriter. The phone call lasted 30 minutes, and she approved me - but only with a £500 limit!
Swearing blue abuse at her, she put it up to £800 (my visa card offered me £1,900!) and I was told I would receive an email confirming the T&C and the card would be issued immediately. I waited.
and waited
and waited
Then I rang up again - apparently because I don't have the previous egg card (I cancelled it) they can't send me the T&C via email! WTF??! I have a savings account that's still open with a secure messages folder - can't they send it there?
Assured I would recieve the T&C by Friday at the latest I was begining to worry.
Doesn't matter now of course - the exploit is well and truely closed now - even if I did use it, there's no cameras left to order.
I realised I could do a similar offer using an amazon voucher from ipoints...
Fortunately iPoints have come to the rescue - or have they? Nope, the voucher won't be sent for 30 days
Perhaps someone from hexus would kindly substitute the £50 voucher for £50 after xmas, I'd be a happy man...
