Is he actually any good, some people seem to hate everything he does for whatever reasons but is he at his best when hes rapping and cursing doing the gangsta thing or at his best when hes singing about his life?

I'm no fan, but I don't hate him. I don't like the self gratifying, self indulgent and poor old (millionaire) me line he seems to always take. I know people with a much more difficult upbringing but don't moan on like he does, but i guess you need material at the end of the day. Plays up to much to the teenage chav population for my liking too, pure lowest common denominator, but he does have some degree of talent - if only for entertaining chavs.

personally I have this strange compulsion to listen to a few of his tracks. Now i'm a metalhead by nature, and generally dispise rap/RnB/house/whatever, but with eminem..while I couldnt listen to (nor do i own) an entire album, I do have to admit to liking a few of his tracks, eg 'without me' (love the video lol), 'lose yourself', 'real slim shady' and 'stan'
They are some of his more tuneful tracks though and mainly i think they are funny and catchy, i don't take any of his stuff seriously
I just find him utterly without merit.
I am whatever I say I am
And if I wasn't then why would I say I am
In the papers, every day I am
Radio won't even play my jam.
Yoda speak aside...... seriously, what's the point here?
Why does that sound more like the lyrics to the Popeye cartoons?
Because if the lyrics were not so easy to understand, his teenage muppet fans with a poor lack of english skills would not understand him and stop buying his records.Originally Posted by DavidM

noooo, it's not as in "I'm in the papers every day", it's "I am what I say I am in the papers every day". As in:
I am whatever I say I am
and if I wasn't then why would I say I am (whatever I say I am)
in the papers, every day I am (whatever I say I am)...
I'm not saying I like him by the way, I'm just explaining it. Most of his stuff is rubbish, the new one's kinda ok though.
Still sounds more like: "I'm Popeye the sailor man"
lol
i'm really not a fan despite having his first two albums (thought they were good at the time). His recent stuff has just been terrible in my opinion, doesn't make any sense and have less and less rythm to my ears.
The comparison with Yoda is genius!
I just cant stand the way he constantly talks about how messed up his life is, he should really be fixing his personal problems...
I'm not sure how much, "I love my kids, but i hate them, and i'm mean to them, and i'll never shut up about it, I cant sleep so i'm going to scream about it" I can take.
I don't like his more upbeat, pop-y songs, but the stuff where he's quite aggressive and seems likes he trying to make a point are good, songs like Mosh, Toy Soldiers, Sing for the Moment and White America are prob my favs songs by him .
You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?
Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP are worth listening to imo, anything after that is crap with the odd moment of goodness.
