Aye what Pyle said you can't go wrong with a Specialized. My stepmams got a specialized thats lasted her many years and I've also got 2 Gary Fisher's. Fantastic bikes. You'll get many years of good wear out of either of those companies bikes.

£500 for a mountain bike, can't get much for that? Your out of your mind, there's tons of bikes out there that are bloody great quality for that sort of money.

You got a local bike shop or something? You should have a look around there and have a chat to the people who work there, round here they are always helpful .

Now's the time to buy one, as all the '06 bikes come out. I got a really good deal on mine - got a 2002 Wolf Ridge - it was reduced by nearly £1000 cos next year's bikes were in - had the hydraulic Hope discs on as well back when they were uber expensive. Picked that up for £800...

If you'd like to save a few hundred, i picked up a GT Avalanche Disc 2 or 3 (can't remember which) for £280 from my LBS (Local bike shop) so then you'd have £200 for a new graphics card or something.

Obviously its no competition for a Specialized or similar, but consdiering how much these (24 gear, front suspension, disc brakes on rear and front) kinda MTB's were when I was riding BMX's, it's a bargain.

Also the £200 may come in handy to get some new forks, as TBH the stock ones are fine for just pedalling about, but once you give them a bit of greif they seem to stiffen up.

Maybe it would help if you told us exactly what you would be using it for. Personally I'm not sure if I'd take my Avalanche downhill riding, but there again i wouldnt buy a Specialized and put it to waste by using it for commuting.
