Parcel Force delivering on Sunday? o.O

I was woken up this morning by the postman who delivered something I ordered last Friday from Dabs. I seriously didn't expect to receive that before some time next week but here I am, looking at the LaCie USB 2 drive I ordered

Not sure if its due to the Christmas seasons... but Dabs and Parcel Force just got themselves some bonus point in my book.

I've actually not ordered anything from Dabs since 2002 (around the time they butchered their interface/some time after they stopped doing free deliveries - their current one is a nice improvement).

Dabs seem to be quite good for hard drives. Got my spinpoint from them as it was cheapest and it came nicely packaged

Good of parcelforce to deliver today!

around this time couriers are unbelievably stretched.

So much so that last year i had a delivery from citylink turn up at 9.30pm but it wasnt the courier who delivered it........... it was a local taxi driver who told me that couriers often hire taxi drivers to simply shift the huge volume of orders, so if they are this desperate i should think that delivering on a sunday is quite normal.

I can only echo what [DW]Cougho has said - courier companies are bursting at the seams this time of year - I happen to know someone who works for the local parcelforce sorting office (sub-hub) and thier average nightly volume is around 1,900-2,000 packs, this past week they have been handling around 5,000 to 6,000 packs a night.

Sunday deliveries really aren't unusual this time of year, the thing that seems yours delivered on a weekend is if the shipper has flagged it as residential, this means they know there is a point in attempting rather than a business address they know will be closed.

Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

Although you do get a nice bit of paper saying " This order has been digitally photographed prior to dispatch"...

Bought a WD Raptor from Scan the other day and it came in what can only be desrcibed as Werewolf proof. My package contained a third of the worlds bubblewrap supplies.

I bought something from eBuyer a couple of weeks ago and didnt get anything saying it had been digitally photographed, have they just started or was it because it was high value?

I also bought from eBuyer a few weeks ago. One of the HDD (out of 2) DoA and they kindly refund me the postage for returning

Western Digital and Maxtor STANDARD Packaging is similar to EBuyer's packaging, 2 blocks to hold the hdd and there you go. IBM HDD packaging appears to be better with soft foam (don't know what it is called) protecting all direction. Microdirect and Planetmicro sent me HDDs in a huge box with a few pieces of "airbags" and the hdd was rolling inside the box. But it still works.

HDDs are made to be that resistant to "light" rough handling and a couple of drops (when in a box). Most of the time the HDD won't be permanently damaged , only a few unlucky b*stard will be DoA (1 out of 15 I bought in the past 3 yrs)
