How much is this domain worth ?

I've Just made a post about this on Martins Forum (The Smart dude "Make Me Rich",Just thought i'd post it here as we have some smart people here!

Right ever Since i turned 14 ( A few years back) and got Access to the internet i have been trying to become a wholesaler so far i haven't made anuff money or found a wholesaler,But i Did buy something i value as a bargain. That being a domain "The dvd Shop" (Not Advertising? No Webpage to view).I bought this for a Very Very low fee back in may 2005 as the last owner had money problems.

I Thought I could make a go of it,But with my Wage i failed,But i was thinking,Do you think its possable to make money out of this rather then let it rotting away untill the domain ends in oct 2007? Maybe try (Not a clue where) finding a parner who'd be willing to run the site/Sell dvds and making the profit while i still own the site,But with me making a small margin from the profits also!

    I'm 17,So Anyhelp would Great!

unless you have the capital outlay to buy the quantity of units required and the warehouse space to store that amount of stuff you are really piddling in the wind.

lets face it, you would be up against play, cdwow, yes asia, tesco et al... can you really compete on price? service maybe, but you wouldn't stand a chance against the big boys. The advertising costs would kill you.... and you WILL have to advertise it.
I am trying to see it your way, but I can't get my head up my arse

best bet is to try and sell the domain to someone that actually wants it for more than you bought it for.

I suggest just trying to sell the domain name, you may even get offers from people too.

Send out a few emails/letters to some big places, they may be interested.

What kind of domain? .co.uk or .tk

Selling it is your best bet but you could do well to try and make it seem like a running business then you might get more for it.

Its a .Co.uk,I Would like to keep it Just so its around longer so the price will go up when a company comes in who think they could Challenge Play.com,But i was thinking more like I "Rent" it out to someone who knows the bussiness they do the site,Sell the dvds and i just get to keep a small margin of the profit because I'm the owner.

I Would do the E-Mail Selling device but does anyone have a quick template as to what to write? I don't really have a clue

    Just you Pyle

Seriously? You're very unlikely to be able to "rent" the domain name out, nobody would want to run a business from a domain that they didn't own.

If you plan on pimping it out to existing businesses for sale, bare in mind that the name "The DVD Shop" is already a registered company, along with several others that are similar, so they could actually just take the domain off you, especially if they've registered as a trademark as well.. (can't check at the mo as the trademark daabase is down)

your not allowed to sell a domain. Else when the net first started, visionaries would of registered every single useful name and just held it to ransom. If you just sell the domain, then a cunning lawyer will just screw you over (but hey, thats a lawyer's porogative).

Acrapo of none of which, i'd recomend using it as a simple forwarder to another company that pays money for relative hits (ie looking for dvds).

A few well placed search engine rankings etc. You've got some money. Not much, but you wouldn't need to give it much maintanence.

However, thats not really what the net is "for" or "about" imo. But its still a possibility.

I'm trying to explain a problem with ICAN rules, if you sell a domain, just as a purpose of a domain (no buisness or ideals behind it) ur not ment to, and if you upset a lawyer, bam!

That combined with my morals means u shouldn't just sit on and sell domains!

There are no shortage of legal cases where people who wern't using a domain, got it taken off them as soon as they offered money to sell it. Espesually if there are name infringements (like mice row's software website, it wasn't until he offered money for the domain (rather than the company) his case lost all hope).

Just got this-Was just a Quick Guess but hey it makes me feel better

We estimate thedvdshop.co.uk to be worth £535.00

This valuation is based on an entry level market price estimate. The actual value may be higher or lower depending upon many other factors such as the type of buyers market, exclusivity of the domain name and whether it has any traffic or commercial value as a business.

This valuation has been stored in your My Valuations. A copy has also been e-mailed to you
