My new hobby!

I decided that one of my new years resoloutions was going to be to take up a hobby.

I decided upon something very fun and challeging - to become a radio controlled helicopter pilot!

So - as i knew that R/C copter flying was a very steep and expensive learning curve i decided to buy a small cheap indoor minature helicopter to start learning on. The one i chose is quite strong for its size even though it looks like its made of cheese and parts are cheap (when superglue cant do the job).

It is a Twister Bell 47. Here is some pics of it in action.

I am getting on so well with this one (only had it friday) that I already have planned my next helicopter. It is also going to be electric, but this one is alot bigger, auitable for outdoor flying and aerobatics, and comes in kit form which should be fun to build!

i've been thinking about getting a kit of some sort for a radio controled vehicle. Was thinking of perhaps a tank or something

How involved is the assembly? not really interested unless you have to put some skill into it. It's not the flying i'd be into, it's the actual building of the thing

Yeah the next one i am buying will be big enough to mount a video camera on. Its still electric though. I am not keen on glow fuel powered I/C - far too noisy and messy. Battery power is where it's at - lower TCO as well

If i do move to any other type of propulsion in the future - it will be from electric, to minature gas turbine. Cant beat the noise of a turbine

My Twister Bell 47 was £120 and that includes everything you need to make it fly including proper 4 channel radio, battery, charger etc. If your serious about flying I wouldnt advise learning on a 2 channel helicopter like the one Buff mentioned - becuase basically whilst being lots of fun, you will not be learning how to fly a proper helicopter witht he proper control's so if you ever come to buy a bigger one with 4 or even 8 channel radio - you will have to re-learn, which isnt ideal.
