    Justice? I don't think so...

It seems we here in this country have our Justice system well and truly foobarred.

A football player gets in a scuffle and the governing body fines his club £175,000... yes, that is ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND pounds.

Fair enough, they can afford it.

Now the other side of 'blind' justice.

A nursery nurse feeds a five month old baby breakfast cereal containing milk. She did this despite the fact that the parents had informed the nursery NOT to give him breakfast and that, more importantly, he had a severe milk allergy.

    The child died.

The nursery pleaded guilty as charged at the hearing.

    The fine?

£60,000 and £20,000 costs. No convictions for manslaughter, nothing... just the fine.

Just so we're clear here... push a footballer?

    Pay £175,000...

Kill a five month old baby?

    Pay £80,000.

    Justice sucks.

My thoughts are with the parents of the child.

I'm not sure its a valid comparision. The Nursery will make say £250K a year?, £80K is a huge fine for them,

Where as £175K for any football club is quite frankly nothing. I don't know what the law would say about the who was responsible the nursery or the nursery nurse, but sadly i think it is probably down to this that no person could face charges.

Personally if something happened like this i don't think a prison sentance/ money or any condolences would make the slightest bit of difference, it doesn't bring the child back.

But you are quite correct LIFE is crap. A friend of mines work mate, found a lump on his leg 3 weeks ago, told it was a strain and to go and see a chiropractor, did so, got told to go back to a different doctor, doctor examined and sent straight to hospital, found it was cancer and he is now dead. 24 years old. Same age as me

Enjoy life while you can imo

The thing is that they had a LEGAL obligation to look after that child, which they failed to do.

The nursery nurse in particular is to blame but she has gotten off scot free as she is sheltering behind the nursery itself.

The parents are considering civil action, which I think is absolutely right.

Doctors who kill patients through negligence are struck off. This nurse went back to work the very next day and is still working today. The nursery is still open, they are still trading although they KILLED a child!

I agree, no amount of money can bring that child back or make up for his death, but my point was about the general disparity between what is obviously a tragic and irreversible loss and what a comparitively minor incident gets, punishment wise.

The football fine has nothing to do with justice or the law. No police officers were arresting the players in question, and there was no court summons. They didn't do anything against the law. The whole thing was an internal affair with football's governing body, who set the fine so high as a general message to players. Arsenal is in no way legally obligated to pay the fine, and is in fact quite free not to do so as long as they don't mind being chucked out of the FA.

Its like the old someone breaks into you're house and you cave their face in catching them on you're property and you get done for it as you are taking away their livelyhood. Its not even considered that this person could have done worse to you and you're family and also cleaned you out at the same time.
