That's probably not dyslexia as such.Originally Posted by Funkstar
Dyspraxia I believe its called? I know someone who had pink paper for things, and said thats what it was. Just a more severe form of dyslexia isnt it?

The coloured lenses tend to be used to treat more specific problems rather than something as general as dyslexia. Although in some cases I've heard that the help 'relax' the other problems.Originally Posted by Twigman
Whereas conventional lenses correct physical defects within the eye itself, the colouration of the lenses appears correct a problem the brain has in interpreting the image. If I don't use mine when reading print on bright white paper under bright lights I tend to be unable to scan down to the next line or pick out the smaller words. After a few minutes the odd green dot starts going for a walk over the page. Ever get hit in the head hard enough to see stars? After an hours reading without the right tint that's what my head feels like.
However, I've not really suffered with many of cognitive problems associated with dyslexia. Many 'total dyslexics' (possibly what you're calling dyspraxia?) have problems translating thoughts into words, telling the time, suffer car sickness, confusion of left and right etc etc. It's not just a visual barrier.
Of course, there's always the problem of over expectant parents demanding that their child is dyslexic because they have poor English grades.
There are a lot of people around that say 'Ah, but I'm dyslexic' when it's really not the issue at hand. The fact I mix all my vowels up when spelling may be a symptom of visual problems, but with enough practice and thought I can (well, could ) learn not to. I'd hate to stand up and say 'I'm dyslexic blah blah I'll never do it' when there probably IS a dyslexic that will genuinely never manage it.
Dyspraxia has nothing to do with Dyslexia, Dyspraxic Children have poor motor skill and unco-ordination, they find it hard to do any gross motor activities - catching a ball, hopping, skipping, riding a bike, can also be associated with learning difficulties and emotional problems not necessarily Dyslexia
Iv'e worked with two Dyspraxic Children in my Childcare career, no Dyslexics that i know of because you can't tell at an early age, writing letters the wrong way round and getting them mixed up is normal development from three and a half to four years old

dyspraxia would be the inability to write things down, we have no problems thinking about it but when it comes to putting it down infront of you it becomes a bit of a problem.
Dyslexia would be the inability to read, depending on how bad you have it it starts as just looking at a book and things kinda lookin blurry, words hard to recongnise.. even words as small as they, the, this can sometimes make me think. clearly i know the words very well be sometimes whiles reading i just CANNOT understand, in worse cases then mine its been know that letters and numbers can start rearrangin themselves in the persons head which makes things very hard to read as you could imagine
Attention deficite disorder, The inability to concentrate on one thing for even a short period of time. This got me into alot of touble at school as if even the smallest thing happened around me it DID distract me which after many things distracting me thoughout one lesson i could never get all my work done when bundled along side the other two of my problems
*edit*
ah didnt see your post there sorry
i dont have such heavy effects from all these, im only a small part now after i lost my statment in school as they thought if improved alot from when i started ( i still needed ALOT of help but THEY wouldnt give it me ) but i dont suffer TO much from stuff like them, I can see the ball catchin as sometimes i could swear i had it RIGHT IN MY DAMN HANDS but i didnt and people start givin you stick for it never hop or skip so no difference there and bikes are not a problemOriginally Posted by shelley bda
As i put up there, its mostly my hand writing that REALLY sucks and my brain even trying to comunicate with my hand to get things down
