    That cartoon depicting prophet Mohammed

What does everyone think about this? I would post a few pics of it, but you never know these days, I might just end up with a bounty on my head.

Isn't it just satire? similar to South Park? I'm just glad Britain stayed out of it.

This was one of the images

I can see why people went so mad over it. I think it will all blow over in the next week or so. The editor of that French people newspaper has already been sacked.

If muslims were not so hypocritical about the whole situation then I wouldn't have an issue. But anti-sematic graffiti is entirely common in the muslim world.

I'm an athiest, and therefore the idea of god offends me. I don't expect the religious world to give up their beliefs because it offends me, I respect anyones decision to follow their own faith. So why should my freedom of speech and expression be taken away because others won’t afford me the same privilege as I give them.

I realise this is an incredibly touchy subject, but I respect news night for showing the images, I am also unhappy with the news paper I have read for many years (as are many readers of The Times) that they have not published the images.

I think that blasphemy of Mohamed is punishable by death in some countries, so you can understand where the uproar comes from, whereas blasphemy of christianity is commonplace.

Racism or anti semmatism is unacceptable even if they do it aswell, there response is over the top but to be expected, so the newspaper in question should of shown abit of common sense.

I think it is just silly, if your protesting that the lead figure in your religion is been made to look like a suicide bomber maybe, just maybe, the best response isn't to get out the Ak-47's and surround the offices of the EU countries in question or to start burning the aforementioned countries flags!

Nice going boys that should show the world that Islam isn't supported by large groups of humorless nutjobs!

4 months ago a Danish author writes that he could not find anyone to illustrate for a book about the life of Muhammad.

On hearing this, Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten asked people to submit their drawings of Muhammad.

They then published 12 entried in their paper

Various events happened IE boycot of danish products etc etc.

French news paper France Soir published all 12 images and another image of God, Buddah, and some other gods I forget under the headline "See Muhammad, we can be characateured as well!!.

Then everything went a bit mad.

Problem is that we have a free press who can print anything they like. In many Muslin countries, the press is state controlled, so many muslims assume that something printed in a western newspaper is the official word of teh governement.

I can totally understand why they don't like it, and given the current global political climate it is a bit daft. Why throw more fuel on the fire? It's our troops in Iraq or victims of likely increased terrorist bombings that will suffer. Right or wrong, stop giving these assholes an excuse. I wonder if the Danish/French etc had the troop presense we have in Iraq, Afganistan, etc, they would have thought twice.

The free speech argument is also bollocks. We don't have free speech, it's an illusion. Heck, even the government is drafting in a bill to stop people inciting racial hatred. You cant say what you want, there are many differnt laws to cover various different situations, such as slander etc. Call your teacher a **** and you will get kicked out of class. Be rude to someone at work and you will get fired got harrasment. Spam too much and you will do a PrivatePyle (joking ).

When will people get it - there is no such thing a free speech.

However, that said i can't help feel the Muslims are being bloody precious about this. They seem to use any excuse to play the 'poor us, evil west' line. I don’t see any of them protesting to stop other Muslims who have burnt our national flag or cut of the heads of innocent people in the name of Islam. How many times have we been called 'Infidels'? Double standards from both sides. Marching in the streets over a picture in another country? Oh come on.

So basically yeah, a dumb move by the papers involved and pathetic hypocrisy from the Muslims. But ultimately a storm in a tea cup I hope.

Many muslims to say they dont like the way that islam has been portrayed and violent when it is not.

Many muslims greet this these cartoons by storming government buildings in full terrorist uniforms and threatening to blow us up.

    Slightly hypocrytical?

Apparently the Koran says that it's blasphemous to depict Mohammed, because you could never imagine the wonder and splendour and superioty of God or Mohammed, so anything you would draw is an insult.

How anyone is supposed to know this is beyond me.

Comedy at other people's expense may be sometimes harsh but we've been doing it for years. Everyone should lighten up. They should apologise and that's it, but can't see the French apologising for anything.

But that doesn't mean we should remain in ignorance of Islam.

To be honest they shouldn't have published something on a subject they didn't have complete knowledge about.

But then again I'm suspicious that the Danish newspaper did know about this in the first place and just wanted provoke a reaction anyway.

But I do feel it's been blown out of proportion by the muslim world as always..

Just because Islam says caricatures of Mohammed is wrong doesnt mean non-Muslim papers etc should obey that,
