    Maths!

Yes, it's exam time and on Monday I have a very hard maths exam but I'm stuck due to one reaosn.

The exam is mainly focussing on proof (in-direct and direct) but the only real problem I have is the algebra side of it. I've never been mathematically strong, I never did it for A-Level and now I'm doing it at degree level (I'm second year computer science so maths is compulsory).

    Anyway, we have things such as: S(n) = n^3 - n which is also S(n) / 3 is a member of Z

I don't even know how to split up the equations. For everything else in this exam I'm fine with, I know which proofs to use, how to use them, I just don't know how to split the equations up using algebra to reach the final condition.

I've been searching through the wikipedia trying to find anything but it only talks about it, it doesn't explain how to do it.

Any help would be much appreciated for any people who are any good at maths out there

Is this discrete maths ? As for the equation, factorise it first then see if thats a member of set Z. I think thats what its asking...

The problem is that I don't know now to multiply out equations

    Yup, it's discrete mathematics

Ok firstly discrete maths is easy on the whole. Secondly , http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebit...tiesrev4.shtml

Factorising is gcse stuff so it wont take you long to understand it.
