Online grocery shopping - Tesco rocks!

I buy most of my groceries online from Tesco and I am so impressed with them. I had a few bad experiences with Sainsburys a couple of years ago, most notably when one delivery took 6 days to arrive!

I switched to Tesco and the service has been awesome. I get a slight problem with a delivery every now and then but it's usually 100% complete and on time. I got my latest delivery this morning and it was a bit screwed up. A few items were missing and, most importantly, someone in the store had substituted 2 4-pack AAA alkaline batteries for 2 4-pack rechargeable batteries! These cost £8 each so I was charged £16 for batteries that I could not use.

I called the helpline and after a couple of phone calls they refunded the cost of the missing items and the £16 for the batteries. They said I could keep the batteries! I haven't got a charger for the batteries but it's the thought that counts...

Any good stories or horror stories about your online grocery shopping?

I've yet to try tesco.com - i think i'm going to as i find it a complete misery to trudge around the 'market with the wife. My wife's chief worry is will they pick bad veggy for you etc?

Got to admit, tesco does have an excellent delivery service...BUT there's a price to pay, you lose out on quality Granted tesco's finest range is almost if not just as good as sainsburys equivalent (taste the difference) but the rest of it..unless you buy branded goods you generally get poorer quality stuff (note the word generally there, it doesnt apply to everything )

Could be worse though, you could abandon all your self respect and sense of taste and shop at asda

    I use Tesco.com now and I won't go back.

The fee, which can be up to £7-8, depending on when you have it delivered, seems a lot, but then compare that to the ~2 hours it takes to go to the local Tesco, park, shop, pay, load the car, get out of the car park and get home, it's actually great value.

Once you've done your initial registration and first shop, a repeat shop takes roughly 20 minutes (I think, my wife does it... ).

We've never had any problems with the quality of produce, although you always get exactly what you would have picked in-store - for instance I always get BIG baking potatoes, but we had medium-size ones delivered. You can put notes on your order and ask them to not substitute goods if they're not in stock, or only for a specific product. However, this means that we've not had our Green & Blacks White Chocolate for about 6 weeks running... (it's on offer in-store, so there's never any in stock).

The deliveries have always been within the specified 2-hour slot and the drivers are usually courteous and helpful - when they delivered 2 Pizza Express pizzas we didn't order, (as we accidentally hadn't said 'don't substitute'), the driver took them off the bill but said I should keep them, otherwise they'd just go to waste .

All in all, it's a great experience. I'm a convert!

I usually try and arrange my delivery for mid-week. It's only £3.99 then. With each item you can specify whether want a substitution or not and you can write a note alongside an item (eg. for a loaf of bread: 'only pick if there are at least 3 days to go before sell-by date').

We usse ocado.com when we can't be bothered to go to the shops. We've always had good service and usualy have amoney off voucher lying around for them as they seem to send you one after evey shop. Only once we had problem when they phoned because 3 of their drivers when ill and asked if they could deliver it later, which was fine and we got everything at the time they said. All in all a good service.

    Edit -
    Under £75 - £5 delivery charge
Over £75 - no delivery charge

My brother used them a few years ago and said that he didn't like them because if they didn't have something on the shelf or in stock they would substiute it with something else... which he didn't like as he wants the products he choses.

Personally I do shop at Tesco, but thats becasue its on my way home.

I shopped for the first time onlie with them for valentines flowers.

I will never ever shop with them again. The flowers arrived on the 15th (whats the point?) and they argued they did not guarantee a day of delivery (again what's the point) and when they did turn up on the 15th the grand prix big ass rose was stunning and i got lots of praise, but it was snapped in two.

    Great one tesco, NEVER again.

In fact I now shop at Asda/Sainsbury's when I can, I just dont like the whole Im bigger than you and you get what we give you attitude that tesco seem to have.

    Matt.

Great for avioding the xmas maddness, but i would rather just go and do it myself the rest of the year. One time i was sent a few things that were substitutes for stuff they did not have in stock. When i poped into the store to buy a DVD the very same afternoon, i took a quick look and - would you believe it - they had plenty of stock of the things they said they were out of.
