What insurance did your bro have?

might be worth giving them a ring, if we're talking remote controlled gate system, tends to be expensive, probably best claim on the insurance.

Thats not hit and run. Its leaving the scene of an accident without leaving any details that is a problem (with no intention of notifying the owners). The fact that he went back later and told them / left his details is fine.

As Animus says, its best to notify his insurance company of the accident and the potential for a claim - otherwise they could decline cover if he leaves it too long before reporting it to his insurers.

Again, if he reported it within 24 hours then I can't see how he's broken the law. The police love to scare people, but know your rights is my advice.

If you abandon your car at the scene of an accident without notifying the police, they presume you were injured or you are avoiding police attention due to being drunk disqualified ,no docs, stolen vehicle etc.

Its know the law not your rights

Right, well would you care to find the part of the law that states that the police will make assumptions about you if you abandon your car? Please provide linkage, it should be easy enough assuming that it's true and you're not talking absolute bollocks. Thanks.

Not having a go Rave, im merely pointing out the law. Road traffic legislation is black or white . If the police find an abandoned car at the locus of an accident with no driver they have to assume the above i quoted, the first generally is where the driver is he lying injured. This isnt legislation this is proceedures adobted by police to carry out enquiry into an alleged hit and run.

i would think now you must realise that i know what im talking about , merely passing on my advice from years of experience !!!!

The Highway Code very clearly states that you have 24 hours to report the accident to the police as long as you do it 'as soon as resonably practicable', which indeed he has done. Therefore, equally clearly, he has not broken any laws.

As much as i hate to say it, Rave is right

But my advice is to not panic. Even if you did not do everything exactly by the book, there is no way they would bother doing you for that.

Best bet is to call the CAB for free legal advice is the wall owners try and kick up a stink.
