    Banks & oversea's wire transfer's

    Hi all,

Do any banks / building societies offer very cheap / no-fee's on bank transfer's over-seas. Namely Germany.

Thing is I need to pay £35 to someone in Germany, but unfortunately I was pretty stupid and didn't find out what my bank charges to do a bank transfer to a German account. £30 incidentally.

I always use the Smile online account, they just charge £8 for their TIPANET service, much lower than anybody else I looked into. You need the IBAN number, name, bank and address. If you find cheaper, I would be interested. I looked into Barclays but £20 and you can only transfer to an account in your own name, not much use really.

When I last checked FirstDirect they also cost less than £30, but more than Smile... for that kind of one you're probably best off arranging to make a payment via PayPal, as that would have cost you something like £1-£1.50... for small amounts of money the bank charges for foreign currency is generally just stupidly high.

iirc theres 2 levels of service, a quick option that cost a bit and a cheaper option, at least thats how hsbc do it.

A TT abroad only costs £21 via HSBC, not too bad. Knowing their banks SWIFT code helps too!

    Cheers, Mike
