    Question Free Phone Number Lookup?

Does anybody know if it's possible to look up phone numbers so you can find out whose calling you?

I've recently been plagued by sales calls in the last month so much that I bought a new phone that supports Caller ID. I signed up to the free BT Privacy to enable it and it works wonders.

I would like to know though if there is an internet site which allows you to look up numbers so you can find out which companies exactly are the ones pestering you. For instance I keep getting calls from number 0800 7838422 which I refuse to answer as most 0800 numbers that call you are sales calls. And if it was that important they'd leave a message on the answerphone

That number is HSBC bank. How do i know?. I phoned the number up hehe.

They are complying with new OFCOM regulations due to come in force later this year which means you can't outdial from a call centre without a number being present, and if you don't get through the number you call "from" must tell the person who was calling.

Can't you just answer it, and ask them to take you off their database? Better than listening to your ringtone over and over waiting for them to hang up. If it doesn't work, you'll still be getting the same result and you can always just hang up on them.

Better still register at TPS and stop all of them sales calls, if they do ring just tell them that your registered with TPS and they soon hang up

www.saynoto0870.com has a database you can search by phone number - that might be useful in identifying if you don't want to phone them back
