    Dealing with apple...

    Hey guys,

The story is this - one of dealing with an iPod. Bought it 29th March last year, then returned 5th may same year - faulty. Replacement sent. 4 weeks ago, it crashes, deletes all contents, so returned to apple. Sent back to me, nff. Yesterday (4 days after the apple care runs out) crashes again. locks up, unresponsive. after battery dies, it recovers, but crashes again. Surely not right? Connected to PC, dead, not recognised, unable to mount. 2 hours later, cures itself.

My question is this, how should I proceed. I've got an iPod that works when it feels like it, apple sent it back with sarky instructions on how to reset it should it crash

So, went to request a service - out of warrenty, yet this unit is only 9 months old, and was back with them for a month out of the time I have had it (and its predecessor). I was going to call their telephone support, but alas, they had just closed. So where do I stand?

    Any help much appreciated

    Dave

Sounds like it's unfit for the purpose they sold it for. Ask for another replacement or a refund. Don't threaten to sue them until you've given them a chance to sort it out though.

Just phoned them, after about 20 mins they agreed to accept it back, though they wont let me register for the Apple Care Plan because the year guarentee has already ceased - even though the iPod was in their hands when it did

Ah well, jus hope they find something wrong, then I get a 90 day guarentee on the new one, which hopefully should allow me to register for the apple care and be able to send it back when it breaks again, as it invariably will.

Thats a big rubbish. Apple are a bit funny with iPods imo...they're their highest sellers but they refuse to replace them if they go wrong

My iPod is about 2years old and just starting to do stupid things (certainly doesn't like connecting to my 360). Ah well: I should really get a new mp3 player but it works most of the time

when i first got my ipod 3 days after getting it, it died sent off for a replacement waitd 4 months for it as they say they sent 3 out previously which all mysteriously vanished at tnt they say, tnt say they never got em. Anyway since that replacement just over 2 years ago the iPod is still going strong. They do tend to be hit and miss, which you would expect the sheer amount they produce.

Is it really worth the trouble of replacing such a lousy product? Do you really need to be part of the homogeneous youth population? Inquire about a refund. Try something different--you might like it.

Why do people slate ipods so much? I understand the "don't follow the flock" argument. I also understand why people wouldn't want to use only itunes...but you can use other stuff for your MP3's and as long as you disable the itunes/ipod service from startup then its not exactly bloatware. Every time I look at my (3g) ipod I love the clean lines and the the white and silver. The nano is a sorely tempting piece of hardware too. I'm not saying other MP3 players aren't good but for gods sake lay off of it!

If Creative and all the other manufactorers made stuff in such quanities as apple then their products would fail too

    Actually, see here:

Also, read about hardware quality. Really, the only reason to buy an iPod is looks. Do yourself a favor. Get a nice watch for the price--it is a classier piece of jewelry.

But I'm happy with my iPod. It plays my music...lasts me a whole working day, sounds decent and stores a ton of music. My iPods still going after 2 years...and thats been dropped, kicked and generally used a lot...and it had a flippin hard drive in it!! What way is that bad?

I ignored that thread because there's so much out there that there's a choice for everyone. don't like one brand there's always another.

Because it doesn't have a built-in FM radio!!!1!1111omfg. It's not as though we carry our entire music collections around on them, is it?

Exactly. It's easy to kick something that's popular.

I love living in london, if your ipod isnt working you pop into the apple shop and most of the time (particularly when its in warranty) they give you a new one on the spot
