HA! I was on the telly just now!

BBC1, Breakfast show with the quite STUNNINGLY attractive Natasha Kaplinski (hope I spelt that right love) and some middle aged bloke. Anyway, story about GCSE's being too weak, so I texted.

"If they are too easy, surely they should just be made harder? Even someone without 'easy' GCSE qualifications would come to that conclusion, never mind an exam review board".

And OF COURSE she read it out, licking her lips as she did. I pwned the exam review board on the BBC tbh.

yeah...they're not getting easier. Especially with AS/A2 levels, the reason people are getting better results is because most people resit a few units now and therefore work harder instead of having all the exams at the end of the 2 years.

Sorry to put a downer on things, but some A-levels are now easier due to the changing emphasis on what % of the marks are made up by coursework, large sections of a-levels now are 50% coursework marks, if you have the ability to do 50% of the work before the final exam you are sure to have a fairly decent mark with teacher assistance, friends help etc etc.

I don't think the final exams are any easier but having less focus on them means that overall grades can be higher.

My exams were 25% coursework, it doesn't make them easier, you still have to know your stuff to get good marks on the coursework.

All my A level's are 0% coursework, and I'm not jealous of my mates who did get coursework cos I saw how many hours work they had to put into it, doesn't make it any easier imo.

I'm guessing you didnt see the thing on TV the other day where a load of A grade maths students were sent to a 1950's boarding school and given an exam, loads of them failed it and it was only the 11-15 test, 1 of the students said that was harder than my GCSE math exam and I got to use a calculator for that....

    WTF.....

People are becoming thick and lazy, calcs in maths exams, are you nuts....
