I kinda mucked up my TV with magnets

Rite, well i got these strong magnets, the toy types that u throw up and they spin round making a weird noise. So my brother discovered that putting them around my monitor makes it go all weird, but its easily fixed, just move them around a bit nd it goes away. We started to notive the screen was getting darker, but no connection of course . So my brother thought, lets see what they do to a tv, so he done it, my monitor now is really mucked up, but i found the degauss button, that fixed the monitor.

But my TV has really dark patches on the top corners and in the middle, weird colours. So how do i go about fixing this? Anyone know?

Didnt know where else to post this so :s

Needs new monitor / speakers / headphones / keyboard.

is the TV a regular TV with tubes??

if it is it could be totally buggered as the magnet distorts the picture due to it distorting the path of electrons flowing from the electron gun towards the screen inside the tv. As electrons are negatively charged particles there motion is changed and so dosent hit the phospher screen in the way its supposed to and thus causing dark patches.

new tv's like ur monitor should de-gauss but for older ones its usually time to chuck the TV away

    although.....

EDIT: make sure u read the warnings about doing this if your gonna give it a try mate

Get your monitor and put it as close to the affected areas of the TV as possible, then degauss the monitor. Its magnetic field should hopefully extend far enough to fix the TV too.

Good idea, getting my monitor to my tv cud be a problem, considering i have to bring the whole tower and such :s

I read through the stuff about the drill etc, and i also found a method of using a soldering iron to fix it, just holding it up to the screen? Should that technicly work.

i have a drill but im not to sure on that, using a stick nd twirling between my hands looked to be a good idea, but id rather not chance anything that could muck it all up even more.

TV's degouse themselves when they've been off for a period - some click when you start them on from cold, thats the degause circuit in action.

Cool, shame I don't know any near me. Never mind I find it hard doing my job as it is without funky magnets to distract me!

I have a couple of sets of neodymium magnets i piss about with. I found out pretty quickly (while at work might i add), that its a reeeeally bad idea to get these buggers near monitors.

    And Hard Drives....

    And Floppy Disks....

    And Server Backup Tapes....

    And eachother.
Once you stick two of them together, its harder to get them apart than kicking Chuck Norris in the nads.

Add a couple of superconductor electromagnets and you have a nice rail gun! Woo Hoo!

Footnote re above: Yes TV's have degaussing coils that fire when the TV is switched on from the mains.

You lucky boy, we have monitors at work that have been borked by muppets with magnets (Pretty colours seem to fascinate idiots lol). If you hold the magnet on long enough, no amount of degaussing will fix it!
