If you are wanting to catch somethimng best time is dawn and dusk (africa time) animals are barely seen at peak times during the day.
Reason for this is that the grass in most places is to long and they lie low in it. Also the reason that it is so hot they hang around in the shade till it cools off. Lions and other cats do their hunting mostly at dawn when their prey is still half asleep making easier targets.
During the day expect to see fox's, a wealth of birds, elephants, various types of Gazelle, zebra, Baboons and possibly some Ostrich (these were the most common animals I seen when I was over in Kenya). If you are lucky and there is a river nearby you may catch a glimpse of a croc.
