Well one thing that people havent considered is the fact that people who drive in other cities that they're not familiar with can get fined very easily as they don't know where speed cameras are and there is so much congestion on the roads that you may not always see the signs...

The government is definitely making something of that but i don't think that that means that they should lower taxes or anything like that

why do people keep thinking that they make income.

    They don't!

The fine is pittance. Its a scheme that pays for itself.

You will of given the goverment more on the VAT on the cars, than you could ever hope to rack up on speed camera fines (enless you drive bangers, and are very incompitant at spotting the cameras)

    Maybe because of this?

    No they don't.

Do the maths, how many people get fined, what do they get fined, how much must that cost in courts and such (even pleading guilty by post will cost a fair bit of dosh).

I think it was clarkson said that all the cameras in the UK generate about as much money as Simon Cowels tax return.

If your a moron, who shouldn't be allowed to drive, you might get fined, what 6 times, before the ban comes into force on your driving. £600. Great, a months income tax, woo. The goverments really going to notice that. Most people spend more on VAT goods in a month, than a driving fine would be.

    stop been stupid.

Your maths make sense, but if that is the case then why did a Chief Superintendent in charge of them shift to selling them and why is he so conviced they're a good source of income?

erm i would hate to engage in idle chit chat that can lead to slander/libel but one would assume some kind of backhander.

They don't even paid their engineers well, i stopped the application pdq for a ktp scheme for road safety camera when i found out how much their were paying.

Remeber that artical is based on something a sales person said. Sales people have no soul, why do you think they never have mirrors in their offices?

Or he was just 'selling' them to encourage their use?
