    Another ebay trouble (sort of)

I've been trying to get an Epson CD/DVD printer for 3 weeks and I had to resort to using Ebay.

I BIN-ed from a guy which the price looked really cheap and I bought straight away. Not to realize I need to add VAT on that which made it a LOT more expensive.

I thought "suck it" and paid with paypal anyway. After that I asked the guy may I cancel the order coz I found its cheaper @ PCWorld (quite far away though, but reachable with my tube ticket).

The guy seems to have no problem with it and say he will cancel order. But he replied me that it'll take up to a week to refund me.

Should I "change my mind back" to get the printer from him (£74), or go and buy from PCWorld (not paid yet, £60) but face possibly Direct Debit reversal fee and possibly paypal fee?

I wouldn't be in this much trouble if the printer wasn't EOL and the replacement model is hell lot more expensive and crappier.

    Cheers for any input
    Arthur

Check the guys feedback - if 100% then it should be ok to get refund from him. (I figure he wont want any negative feedback - don't leave any feedback till everything is 100% finished, ie you have the printer and you have thoroughly tested it or he's given you a full refund). If he's using paypal then there should be no reason for him to delay refund by a week (unless he's on holiday and doesn't have paypal access). Also if you never get a refund and never get the printer then you can claim back from paypal.

Which model epson printer? and what's wrong with the replacement? Thanks Josh

One reason for the delay might be that he already transferred the money to his bank account leaving him nothing in his paypal account and if he has nothing in his bank account, he cant refund you until the money has hit his bank account.

Id be more worried about buying an Epson over getting your refund :\

If you have to have one though - go through PC world, will probably be easier to return it when it goes wrong

TBH Arthur, the T&Cs of ebay clearly state that once you've bid/selected Pay it Now, that's a contract that you're obliged to stick to. The guy is a private seller, not PC World, and he's doing you a favour by refunding you, especially the trouble he's gone to (including fees) to get this sold to you, plus the hassle of re-listing it.

Without wanting to sound confrontational, you should be grateful that he's actually agreed to this at all when he was perfectly within his rights to say "sorry, but you've already bought it." I know if I was in that guy's position I'd be totally hacked off if someone did that to me. He's a personal seller, not a massive corporation.

Although if he's added VAT separately you could ask for his VAT number, if he doesn't have one then never mind ebay's t&cs he's actually broken the law.

Thats why I thought I should send the money through paypal first. Well I went to PCWorld today and they didn't have the printer there even though I reserved it online...

I felt really bad had to made the seller going around in circle and I did apologize properly in every single message I sent him...

I can't believe the price of the printer keep going up and up. Must be a really good printer otherwise people wouldn't push the price up, even for a discontinued product.

Not a fan of epson's myself...

Anyway, you can request the seller's details and give him a call on teh good old dog and bone. I find it makes it more personal and shows you care a bit - you'll also be able to judge whether he's pissed off or doesn't really care.
