    Glad it's not just me.

What used to find is that when we were busy at work and short staffed, I just didn't know where to start and found myself stressed out, therefore even less motivated than before. It's a bit of a vicious circle to be honest, and if not dealt with properly, can lead to more serious problems. Getting stressed, then worried about being stressed, which leads to more stress, in a sort of downward spiral really.

I know that might sound a bit far-fetched to some people, but it is a medically recognised condition, which, due to the stigma of it being a non-physical illness, a lot of people feel like they're just being stupid, or wasting the doctor's time.

It took a lot of persuading for me to go and see the doctor about it, especially as I can sometimes be a massively cynical person :-)

I was worried that he was going to think I was over-reacting, but he was glad that I'd actually tackled it head on because a lot of people make themselves worse by ignoring it. In fact, I actually felt a bit better after making the appointment because I knew I was doing something about it.

I've enrolled on a weekly "managing anxiety" session that they run here at work, and although it's not quite what I expected (seems to be dealing with relaxation techniques rather than tackling the subject head on), it seems to be quite interesting, and I'm keeping an open mind about it.

I realise that some people will probably be reading this, and think about taking the 'mick' out of what I've said, but to be honest, I don't care. You can stick it :-P

I'm a more calm person now after dealing with my stress, and if any stress-heads reading this have taken it on board, then that's good as far as I'm concerned.

    Woo!!

    Two ways,

    1) Work for yourself. If you know that no-ones going to do it but you, eventually you realise that motivated or not, you're going to have to work hard. Rock and a hard place is a good incentive.

    2) Have a Plan. A good one. If you're working towards a goal, you'll work harder. Whether it's travelling, retiring early (no plan is too long term), or buying something nice. Every time your enthusiasm starts to flag, think about why your doing it. Of course, if your day job is just to pass the time between weekends, then this isn't going to work, but if you've got greater aspirations (and everyone should) then it'll help out.

And lastly, remember to breathe. It's amazing how a couple of minutes of pumping oxygen into your system can reviatalise you. Gets your brain moving, and your body follows. I used to drink tonnes of coffee, now I'm down to 1-2 cups a day, some days none. Mike probably knows what I'm talking about.

Not motivated at all in my Job. For my first 2 years we have been giving projects, problems and new interesting things but now projects are over, no new projects, being too pro-active has solved most of our problems so now my day is just dealing with stupid users (Printer un-plugged, kicked out network cable, printer jammed etc etc)

I work for a museum so money is v. tight, there isn't any plans for projects coming up. In fact apart from a network replacement and VOIP up north (so we don't actually do much) thats it for the next whole financial year

I decided last weekend and I will be handing in my notice, leaving London and going traveling beginning of the new year which ive been wanting to do for way too long

But in the mean time... Coffee keeps me going

    Mike_Fishcake,
Excellent that you have worked out anti-stress solutions!
People should definitely ignore prejudices about stress and seek help. It really can't be done properly on your own.

My work is very stressful. I've got enough work to do today to last me the next three days. All of which has to be done today.

I'm currently working on seven OS's and I have three programs to write by the end of today. It's not going to happen really, but I just try and stay relaxed and ignore the deadlines (but only because I know they're not achievable). On top of this, it seems I've picked myself up a part-time job on top of the part-time job I already have. Both involve software development.

On top of all of this, I'm living in a different country to all of my family and friends, living by myself in fact.

I feel like Jesus really. I come into work, people surround me and ask me to work miracles for them. Then after work I just hit the gym and let everything slide past me

My works a bit stressfull baring in mind the entire department know the new CEO/COO wants to get rid of the IT dept and outsource.
Previously it was a bit stressfull because a psycho argumentative for the sake of it bitch ran the day to day operations. In the second case I just resigned without having another job to go to as I had sizable savings. In my current job as soon as I get my bonus this year I'm handing in my notice
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."

Well, I too have a stressful job in IT sales.

I carry a large target (multi million) and this year I have been handed simply the worst set of accounts ever, and they are all based in the north. Its as if they took the worst accounts found the worst ones in there and handed them to me.

Work can be high stress, particularly this last few weeks when one of my colleagues was off ill with... you guessed it.

I do like my job (at times) but it also frustrates me, gets me angry and generally in a bad mood. Some days I go in, and I just cannot be arsed. I do the minimum, I am not pro-active and I just read Slashdot (Hexus forums are blocked). I then stress out because of the time I have wasted and how far behind my target I am..

I do wish i was back doing IT support, at last then the pressure was not so immense however the pay simply does not stack up, so everyday I wake up think about how much I do not want to go to work and then go in anyway.

lol, I understand too well mate...

my mom is from this country but my dad isn't... he had top qualifications from elite uni's in the UK (and I'm not trying to boast but just make a point) and he was easily the smartest man in his office. Where some guys put certificates on their office walls of a lesser value he never did any such thing. He had no need. However, because of favouritism and I suspect some form of racism (although people don't always show superficially) he remained at a very average salary despite easily being one of their top employees. He didn't shift place either due to age. Shame really because all the much higher earners always had to come to him for advice on *their* own job. At times I wish we had been in america for his sake where there exists no such discrimination (or at least much less because they look purely to getting the job done and just want it done best usually without so many politics) and because the only true natives were the red indians for the best part. This country has changed, and there are nice people who will always help others before themselves, but along with that nice batch a bad batch of people do exist.
