    Although its propbably true for most cases, profit maximisation isn't the one and only goal for a company.

    True! Infact if profit maximization was the sole ond only goal, companies would not be even able to sell products!

    Maybe they are trying to say that profit maximization is the top priority...

    By onwards investing all the shareholders' capital in the single company in the world that will offer the maximum return on that investment. Any given company is overwhelmingly unlikely to be the 'best in the world' company, so is guaranteed to offer inferior returns. So if every company had the sole aim of maximising return on investment, there would be no actual activity done anywhere
