Enhance your Karma - become an IT Volunteer :)

Its unlike me to pimp anything , but I came across this site on my daily browse of The Register and actually felt motivated enough to sign up.
It seems that they are short of people with web design skills ( of which I know the HEXUS community has one or two )

Not only will you enhance your cosmic brownie points , you'll be helping people out which can be very rewarding ( and doesn't hurt your CV either )

    http://www.it4communities.org.uk/it4c/index.jsp

what are you waiting for ?

    get signed up!

I wouldn't do voluntary work if you paid me!

Seriously though, this is a good one and I will be forwarding it to a couple of whizzy web-type-people I know.

Good stuff - They are seeking a range of skills ( from basic IT training upwards ) but I'd have thought most aspiring web designers would jump at a chance to enhance their portfolio

Have registered and encourage others to do so. There's some interesting web projects on there ranging from fixing script errors(PHP, ASP etc), to building new websites as well as lots of other IT stuff like advising on backup solutions.

I'm hoping my workload is going to ease up enough at the end of the month that I can take on one of those projects.

I would sign up, but I can just do HTML/CSS, so I dont expect i'd be any use, which is a bugger...but ohwell.

    Good on everyone signing up

HTML / CSS - Probably exactly was a ton of charities are looking for!

Realistically a small, local charity only needs a static web site...

I did some work at uni for some "good causes" i found it very anoying how they where spending thier money on advertsing, the problem is many of them use the logic that its worth while spending £5,000 on advertising because it will make them £10,000 back to spend on their good cause, kinda misses the point of charity!

But definately wothwhile signing up for, you never know how you can help!

I know what you mean - the nice thing that I can see about the project listed are that they are for smaller local projects that are less likely to do that sort of thing.

yup already responded to a couple

What i was saying is that there are quite a few that you want too ask yourself, "what are they actually doing?"

just because its a registered charity doesn't mean its worth helping for free. (taken out of context that would sound harsh).... just because its a registered charity dosen't mean there aren't more wothwhile causes for your time... that sounds better
