Can someone answer me this - it regards getting a red card in football. I swear that you always got to play one game before your 3/4/5 game ban came into effect, but Gilberto Silva got sent off this weekend passed and he now misses next weeks game against Man Utd.
Is it me just not remembering right? Or are there different rules if there are 2 yellows or violent conduct etc.

I always thought it came into effect straight away, its when you're playing for a different FA that its different (I've just canvassed office opinion on this one)
It only just changed last year. If it's a straight red then it's a 3 match ban with immediate affect with a chance of appeal, if it's two yellows then it's a 1 match ban with no possibility to appeal.

If you appeal against a straight red (you can't appeal against 2 yellows), then depending on the date of the appeal and the scheduling of the next fixture, you can miss the next game. It's not definite though.

it depends on the FA i think - example over xmas the FA were closed and so no bans were processed, however its been a good few days since the red card and so any appeals will have already been processed

On a tangent - Yea would love him to play, he would make it a better game - always good to have both sets of teams being at full strength - will be close next weekend IMO...
Indeed and I expect a few heated tackles will be given by both sides, but hey that's football. As soon as the final whistles blown they're all shaking hands and stuff like that.
Fingers crossed we'll win and hopefully Darren Fletcher's not playing although he did have a cracking game just the once against Arsenal IIRC.
