    Ailment unkown

I recently had a migraine (the sunday before the one that just passed) and ever since I have had the follwing symptoms...

The instant I turn on a light, or there is a flash, even within a game, I get an intense, stabbing pain on the edge of my eye which extends rapidly to the left temple and an area just below my left ear.

I'd like to point out its not a crippling or lingering pain as it quickly subsides after about two seconds, but its just VERY worrying as its not unheard of for these sort of "minor" things escalating into more severe complications..

I'm going to have it seen to by my GP soon but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be going on with me...

Sounds like it 'could' be the first signs if a detached retina are the flashes to the outside edge of the eye? Get and see ur quack asap

Firstly, I’m not going to give any medical advice (only a Doctor can do that), but I will list my experiences with migraines as someone who has suffered from them since a teenager (I was actually rushed into hospital at the age of 15 with a suspected brain tumour after my first severe migraine attack).

The pain you are describing is common across migraine sufferers, but most people I’ve spoke to have the pain more towards the front of their head (at least I do). Then again, migraine pain is very deceiving; it can often feel like it’s coming from somewhere else.
The light causing pain is possibly a side effect of having, or if you’ve had a migraine. When I have one, this is usually the worst part of it. Although I am unfortunate enough to suffer from Photophobia naturally (Google it), after a bad attack I can be confined to a darkened room for several days. Some people can suffer from migraines for weeks apparently, but I’ve never seen anyone with a condition that bad thankfully.
Luckily I rarely get them these days. You’ll learn overtime what sets them off, and you tend to “feel” different a while before one really kicks in, allowing time to try and minimise it before it develops. The two biggest things that effect if a migraine develops for me is light intensity / colour and hydration levels. Drinking plenty of water really helps for me.
Looking at any sort of VDU I find slows down recovery dramatically (ie. Get off your computer)

Of course, this is only my experiences with migraines and how they affect me. Only a doctor can really diagnose if the problem you are having is migraine related, because of course, it could be a number of things.
Have you been (professionally – by a doctor) diagnosed as a migraine sufferer?

I doubt its a detached retina but I'm going to get a GP to have a butchers soon.

Its been a week since my last migraine and this is the first time its happened and I've had about fifteen migraines in my lifetime that I can remember.

I stopped taking Paracetamol and other drugs like that which cut the frequency from every two weeks to about every six or seven months but seeing as this has never happened before is why I'm a little bit concerned.

And to clarify, I said bright flashes looking at a light even bright lights and flashes within a game cause the pain even if its only a brief pain.

Get down the docs Fro. I'm sure its nothing serious, but headaches and eye problems aint the sort of thing you want to let linger.

Never ask for or accept medical advice from anyone who's not a GP either, its dangerous, naughty, bad, wrong, evil, illegal, and foolish.

Just go to the doctors. Even if you think it's nothing, you'll feel better getting it confirmed.

Plus, we don't need to feel guilty, it's what we all pay our taxes for!
